Dd and a friend want to go to London to see a show in a few weeks. Show will be in the West End. I need to find somewhere for them to stay (both 18). I want somewhere that feels safe, not too expensive but safety and a central location the main things. I was thinking maybe around Kings Cross ? Anyone stayed somewhere recently that was nice ?

Any of the premier inns will be fine.

There's a premier inn and a couple travelodges round that area that are perfectly decent. It is a central area..but being so close to three big transport hubs there are quite a lot of people on hard times around. Plenty of homeless people/beggars and pickpockets can be an issue.

So they do need to be very aware and not get their phones out when in the street if they can avoid it.

We've stayed at the Premier Inn hub at King's X, individual rooms which are smaller than normal but very comfortable.

Which station are they getting in to? I'd echo Premier Inn too. I'd try to book one near the arrival station so that they can walk to it, check in and drop off bags ( they'll store them if it's too early to get into the room) and then they can tackle the underground. The next day they can check out and come back for bags when they leave.

Premier Inn fits your requirements and is reasonably nice. Several locations in King's X and Covent Garden Hub or PI.

I quite like the Fielding Hotel in Covent Garden.

I like the Premier Inn St Pancras, which is directly opposite the British Library and in sight of Kings Cross - I have stayed often on my own, getting back there late from venues in the west end and Islington, and always felt really safe. It’s also in a few minutes’ walking distance of Euston and Euston Square which is useful for some venues.

I’ve stayed in the King’s Cross travelodge, was fine, short uber or a doable walk to main west end, tube was back in opposite direction so wasn’t worth it

Which show do they want to see? And which station are they travelling into? I'd get them a hotel close to either the station or the theatre.

The Premier Inn Hub in Covent Garden is great and they can easily walk back (or grab a cab) there from the West End. They are better value than standard Premier Inns, but the facilities are still fine for a night.

Getting into Paddington, but Paddington always seems v dodgy to me . They are seeing Hades Town.
I know the area around Kings X well, but would be happy for them to be in another central area, as long as they are somewhere reliable, safe and clean. I don’t mind throwing a bit of cash at it, it’s a treat for my dd, but I haven’t stayed in any of the places I am looking at, so it’s great having women’s personal experience.

Premier inn at angel was a great location and good value. A few minutes walk to tube.

NanFlanders · 09/01/2026 18:25

The Generator hostel is clean, social and central. Some private rooms, but can be nice to meet others in a shared room. Lockers for your stuff.

Thanks everyone, going by all the comments I’ve booked her into the Premier Inn, her Godmother lives in the next street so that helps if there are any problems.

This is where we stay and never had any complaints, .

I’m not sure why you’d stay north and then have to get on the tube to get to the theatre and back again. I’d rather stay central and then you can wander around and not worry about last transport back or an uber. If they’re seeing an evening performance they’ll come out into a pretty buzzy scene, even on a week night in January. I’d probably stay at any of the Premier Inns or travel lodges in Central Area. I know there’s a Travel lodge on Drury Lane. There is also a chain called Z Hotel who have a hotel on the Strand but Im not sure if they do twin rooms. The places I’ve stayed personally were an Aparthotel just south of Trafalgar Square which had two bedrooms and we went to Covent Garden for breakfast. Any of the Park Plazas have been good although the three I’ve used for work were just around Waterloo / County Hall./ Westminster / Riverside locations. They would actually be an easy walk from Covent Garden and not as scary as you might imagine.
