What is the warmest room in your house?

Our dining room seems to have its own microclimate!
Always a few degrees warmer there than anywhere else.

Our bedroom, which is quite annoying as I’m on medication that makes me very warm and it’s bloody awful trying to sleep.

soundsofthesixties · 08/01/2026 17:24

Living room is always warm and unbearable in the summer.

DebbieTheCat · 08/01/2026 17:58

Our bathrooms always feel warm by virtue of having hot water pipes under the floorboards.
Our downstairs loo is the coldest room.

Bathroom. Heated flooring.

Littletreefrog · 08/01/2026 18:03

DS2's bedroom. It has an unusually large radiator for the size of the room and he has various computer things that seem to give off loads of heat as well.

My spare bedroom. We use it as an upstairs sitting room when it’s cold as it’s so cozy and always warm. The pets love it in there too!

I like this idea!
Just wondering at what age is deemed feasible to boot the kids out so we can have a spare bedroom/sitting room upstairs 😁

Living room for several reasons.

i) It gets most sun compared with other rooms in the house.

ii) More radiator power per square ft.

iii) The radiator pipes to the rest of the house run from the boiler underneath the floor and up the walls of the living room. So it gets additional heat from those, a kind of bonus underfloor heating.

iv) Radiators on stud walls in other rooms are adjacent to it, ie the other side of the stud walls in the living room have radiators on them.

v) It has TV, lights, other equipment that is switched on and more people in it on average, probably gets an additional 1/2 kw of extra heat that way in the evenings.

Downstairs loo. It’s a small space with a radiator and with the door closed, it retains its heat well. Meanwhile, we have a kitchen / lounge / diner, so it’s a bigger space to heat.

Hmm, not sure about that @DebbieTheCat, no kids at home here, but I can recommend an upstairs sitting room, it’s so nice to come upstairs and be sort of ‘finished’ with downstairs for the evening.

My bathroom! It’s a small room with a large heated towel rack and gets lovely and warm. For years we had no heating at all in this room (we took the radiator out with the intention of renovating, then we ran out of time and money). It used to be excruciating getting naked in there or having to sit your naked bum on the freezing loo seat, now it’s bliss!

Mine too , it's because mine has all the hot water pipes for the taps and radiators under the floor and I don't have any carpets down .

I'd live to turn mine into a second sitting room but getting furniture up my stairs is a real nightmare.

The ground floor of my house is open plan with a long knocked thru lounge/ front room that's impossible to keep warm.

101Kittens · 08/01/2026 18:50

The office. Oddly enough that is where all the cats are sleeping! The window in there is the best sealed too, almost soundproof.

justsayitonemoretime · 08/01/2026 19:31

Kitchen.
There's always someone cooking, baking, or reheating meals around here!

Butteredtoast55 · 08/01/2026 19:40

The kitchen when the utility room door is shut and the underfloor heating is on!
But super-toasty in the living room tonight with the fire stoked up and the snow falling outside 🔥 ❄️❄️❄️

letshavetea · 08/01/2026 19:57

Am I allowed to say that after years of living in a cold Georgian house we have downsized to a modern eco house with underfloor heating powered by an air source heat pump. All rooms are warm and toasty. I do miss my open fire though!

ZookeeperSE · 08/01/2026 19:58

Kitchen, because of the Aga. It’s become our de facto office for the last few weeks as the actual office is freezing 🥶

bumphousebump · 08/01/2026 21:00

Kitchen, south west facing new extension with underfloor heating and big windows. It’s a big room but heats up quickly and I wfh in there when needed. Or the lounge when the log burner is on. Coldest room is our en-suite, it’s tiny, 2 external walls and just is cold….

Middlemarch123 · 08/01/2026 21:26

My bedroom, radiator, two duvets, electric blanket, hot water bottle, three cats on the bed. Currently sleeping in my oodie, I run cold. 🥶

helpme402 · 08/01/2026 21:30

living room, although its large through lounge but has 3 radiators. kitchen is incredibly cold, you can see you icy breath in there although there are two heaters in there. in the summer kitchen is incredibly warm as there's 50 million windows and it's a south facing garden. (To add kitchen is an extension that we didn't do)

aintnospringchicken · 08/01/2026 21:48

Our downstairs toilet.

A cold bathroom is miserable isn't it.
Glad you've got a cosy one now!

bathroom, I stick the clothes horse in there to dry it quickly.
my downstairs toilet and the hall are absolutely freezing I think I need bigger radiators

Ditto.
Aga, two big south facing windows...
DH's study is on the north side of the house and at most 11C unless we put an electric heater in there.

Schoolregret · 09/01/2026 13:52

Utility room. It has a double radiator. Cats sleep in there, lucky things. It's also the coolest room in summer as it has no windows.

ElegantFowl · 09/01/2026 13:53

Our sitting room in the evening when the log burner’s lit. Toasty.
