Buying Tickets for West End

ClearlyNoIdea · 08/01/2026 10:53

Never been to the West End before and want to take my DD to see Hamilton. Can you buy cheaper tickets at the box office on the night or would I be just better off booking online?

TIA

Use today tix and go for the lottery, or book in advance. I don’t think there are any cheaper on the day tickets for Hamilton.

If you are travelling far then it’s a huge gamble to wait till the day. If you are nearer and prepared for disappointment then why not!

Look at direct from theatre. I find todaytix expensive unless they have an sale on (which they do fairly often tbf but for specific shows / dates)

The £10 daily lottery is great if you can go on an evening's notice, but it's front row so you can't see most of the choreography. Still an amazing experience, though.

There are a smattering of tickets available often on the day from TKTS and around £50 for the £80 tickets or ££70 for the £105 tickets, that sort of range. I've not seen cheap seats discounted when I've looked.

Download the Today Tix app

There are often sales etc on there and you can buy tickets until about 2 hours before a show.

momahoho1 · 08/01/2026 12:51

There are returns, singles and anything left over available on the day, online or from various outlets in person including theatres, some have specific daily allocations you can queue for. If you aren’t fussy what you see I would simply go on the day, I’ve seen all kinds of things I may have not booked but turned out to be amazing. If you really want to see Hamilton i would recommend booking

matercatta · 08/01/2026 12:54

Just book it and book a decent seat if you are really keen and especially if you have to make travel arrangements etc . Lotteries and today tix are great if you are close by and can go at the drop of a hat but not for popular shows or set dates.

Thank you all. I will be flying into London so not able to go on a whim. I will just book. Can anyone recommend anywhere to stay that is clean and comfortable within walking distance (2 or 3 miles) that is a decent price. Thank you again

@ClearlyNoIdea for Hamilton specifically I’d recommend Circle over Stalls tickets - I’ve done both and Circle is a much better experience

I can get seats at the front of the Royal Circle but it says restricted leg room. I take that to mean you can't stretch your legs out if needs be?

I’d opt for Stalls myself! It’s not like there’s a lot of special effects / scenery and I like to see the performers’ faces which is easier from the stalls. It’s very much a personal decision.

id probably look around Battersea power station for somewhere - art’otel Battersea is nice without crazy prices and you and your DD would probably also enjoy spending time in the power station complex — but depends on what your budget is and when you are coming.

LIZS · 08/01/2026 15:02

Think there is a Travelodge in Battersea or Premier Inn on Southbank. Hamilton is currently in London Theatre new year sale https://officiallondontheatre.com/london-musicals/

You can’t stretch your legs out in any west end theatre anywhere!! Is Royal Cirvie the third tier? I usually prefer Dress Circle which is second tier- avoiding the front row because there’s often a rail which can get in the way of the view

In Hamilton there is one scene in particular where it’s is very difficult to appreciate the incredible staging / choreography from the Stalls in my experience of having been twice.

LostThestral · 08/01/2026 16:10

Be careful in the summer, majority of the old theatres do not have air con

All the old theatres have cramped legroom - Victorians was shorter and thinner than we are! It's just part of the West End things. There's sod all legroom in most of them.

I definitely endorse the Circle over the Stalls.

I've seen it from both (well, all three, as I've been up in the gods as well) and the amazing work with the lighting, choreography and rotating parts of the stage that are part of the storytelling are VERY much more apparent from the Circle.

Theimpossiblegirl · 08/01/2026 20:49

I wouldn't bother with stalls for Hamilton. You want to be at the front of a circle. Use view from my seat.
