Just a quick question. Im early 40s and my migranes (just before my period) have gotten a lot worse lately.

My period is due in 2 days and inwoke up with that 'pain behind my eye, blurry vision/sickness' and I had been prescribed zolmitriptan so took one.

I have anxiety and OCD with panic attacks.

So i took the tablet and almost immediately i go RED HOT. I had been in my bed, under 2 duvets before and I ended up with just a think cotton sheet on me. I felt so hot. And I feel like my breathing was off too, like I couldn't breath properly.

HOWEVER when my DH came in and was talking to me about something else I was fine but as soon as he left I was lay there thinking about it, I started to feel tight chested again.

This makes me think it was in my head/anxiety related.

The things is, I usually spend the whole day in bed. Light off. Trying to take paracetamol but throwing it up. Vommiting up any food I try to have l. Migrane all day etc.

After I feel asleep Inwas out about 3 hours and have woken and eaten a salad and toast.

Migrane gone. Nausea gone.

But part of me thinks I might have an allergy or something :/

I think more than anything I am wondering about the hot flush. Could that be a normal side effect for some?

I get migraines and have anxiety, but I take sumitriptan rather than zolmitriptan. I think hot flushes are a side effect of all triptans, I have had them before. The tight chest and breathing impact are a worry though, and can also be a side effect - not one you particularly want. I would mention to the Dr as it clearly helped, maybe a different triptan would suit you better.

I have taken Zolmitriptan and it didn't do anything although my friend uses it and it works for him. I have tried most of the triptans but now use Sumatriptan and Eletriptan, Eletriptan is the best but does cause strong drowsiness and might not be the best for Menstrual migraine. Most of the triptans cause transient side effects such as a slight sense of tightness in your upper body and neck or even a slight pain when you salivate. I grew to appreciate these as signs the medication was in my system and starting to work. Some people do get flushing but it passes it happens because they are a medication that works on your vascular system. I think usually for predictable menstrual migraine naratriptan or Frovatriptan is usually favoured although I know Zolmitriptan can be used.

I could be you were just anxious about using the medication which I get, if it worked to get rid of your migraine then just try to accept that it will have transient effects and talk to your GP if it's unbearable, there are other triptans you can try.

I use Zolmatriptan nasal sprays. Find them very effective for me, complete game changer. I was in bed vomiting for 48hrs til I got these. I do get flushed with them (also menopausal tho!). Never had any tight chest/breathing issues with it. I’d mention that to GP.
