Any advice on how to handle this PE teacher?

DD is being investigated for two particular issues, or rather we are still waiting for her first appointment with a specialist but GP agrees that she will almost certainly have one of the two. As a result we have been advised that she shouldnt participate in contact sport until told otherwise by specialist as she is at a greater risk of injury. Year head is fine with this (Y10) but PE teacher is refusing to make any adjustments without written instructions from GP. Contacted GP who agreed to send the letter but he was a locum. Called them today and its been logged on the "job list " (my words) but its not been sent. It was initially logged 2 weeks before Xmas.

DD has other issues which means that she wont simply say "No I am not allowed to do this" to the teacher and then bring it to me or YH if teacher kicks off, she will risk her health rather than do that. I dont know why YH (who is part of SLT afaik) isnt pulling rank but she isnt.

PE is on Thursday and they are doing football. I have asked GPs the expadite the letter, was promised a call back which of course never came.

I would say that she has an appointment at the time that PE is on to get her out of it for a week if I could, but I have work and its too late to book it off. I have no one else to ask. DD isnt a skiver at all, her attendance is great as are her results.

Any ideas, firstly for this week and then going forward as I sense that the teacher really is rolling her eyes and isnt taking it at all seriously. Maybe she will if DD saves a goal and gets three dislocated fingers......

I emailed HoY as I cant find the PE teachers email.

Spoke to the docs and the delay is because the GP was a locum and they need to confirm what and why is being sent as far as I understand it. So they printed off the consultation notes and DD is taking them in tomorrow.

I said that she would not be attending PE for contact sport, would not be going in kit and she could go to the alternate arrangments mentioned by the HoY last time we discussed it. I put it in a very much "I am letting you know" way rather than asking permission. I laughed when I read the consultation notes though as it included the phrase "PE is forcing her to take part in contact sports" I bet that will go down well if she sees it! She is seeing HoY first thing so no excuses as PE isnt until last period. Will get DD to message me on her lunch break to find out what the arrangements are.

Lets see what happens tomorrow as I spoke to a colleague today who has had run ins with this teacher and I am told that she has behaved like this with other students.

Why on earth should the teacher see your child's confidential medical notes? I'm a teacher and I'd be making a complaint.

Jeez. Some PE teachers really can be arseholes difficult to deal with, can't they? I also suspect that some of them also have a slightly sadistic side to their character.

Just in case it becomes necessary, I found that sending a mild letter asking whether it would be the PE teacher, the school itself, or the LEA who we should sue in the event of our dc suffering a preventable injury should she be made to participate in PE lessons when they'd been told she shouldn't take part.

Don’t complain about the GP, this would be considered non-NHS work and so if the GP has said they’ll do it they’re being kind.

The underlying issue is the PE teacher, and that’s what you need to address. Email PE teacher and year head and state daughter will not be participating in contact sports until further notice. If the school would like a GP letter I’m sure they could pay privately, I imagine their insistence will wain.
