I’m gutted . A few months ago had some cabinets made for bathroom. Forest green and v expensive. Today I’ve noticed they are streaked with I presume soapy water . I’ve googled and the suggestion in bicarb paste but that hadn’t woo Anyone know what I can do? I’m gutted as they cost a lot and it’s really unsightly

I wouldn’t use anything abrasive. Surely bathroom cabinets should cope with soapy water or they aren’t fit for purpose.
Have you tried hot water with wet then dry e cloths?
I’d send photos to the manufacturer for advice. I’m guessing dark colours will show marks easily and will need a regular buff up with an e cloth.

Yes you’d think they’d cope with it but apparently not! I do think its DHs fault for not wiping it down though and sadly Ive only just noticed as I tend to use the en-suite more.Yes tried hot water but no difference

I'd probably try sugar soap, as used for prep before painting, as it's not abrasive and then rinse well and buff with a microfibre cloth :)

Don’t blame your husband. It’s ludicrous that bathroom cabinets can’t cope with soapy water. I’d take this up with the suppliers.

It was a joiner who made them and then had them sprayed. There’s no way he’ll accept any responsibility.

I’m wondering if it’s the paint they used? If it wasn’t kitchen and bathroom paint that might be the problem.

SirChenjins · 09/01/2026 14:27

I agree with pp - they absolutely should be able to cope with soapy water. As @24Dogcuddler says though, were they painted with the wrong paint? (I might have painted our downstairs cloakroom with paint that wasn't bathroom paint and it might have water marks on it...but I don't mention it and no-one else seems to have noticed)

Sidebeforeself · 09/01/2026 15:15

Yep I think the paint should have been able to withstand light water drips.
