What makes clothes feel good quality to you

There are some items that just feel better made, even if I cannot always explain why. It might be the fabric, the fit, or how they hold their shape.
I am curious what signs you look for when deciding if something feels good quality or not.

First of all a garment of quality will be made of a fine 100 percent natural fiber, whether wool, silk, linen or cotton or a combination of these. The weave will be regular and dense but it will not be thick or heavy.

The cut will be ample and well fitting with extra length in sleeves, shirt/skirt /coat length.

Finally it will be manufactured with precision, perfectly matching of patterns, straight flat seams and hems and careful attention to detail.

The price will reflect all of these qualities.
The most important factor being the fabric.

For me it’s mostly in the fabric and how it behaves after a bit of wear. If it feels substantial without being stiff, doesn’t go baggy at the elbows or knees, and still looks decent after washing, that’s a big sign.
I also notice stitching and seams more than I used to. If they’re straight, reinforced in stress areas, and nothing twists after the first wash, it usually means it’s better made. Fit matters too – good quality clothes tend to sit properly and not need constant adjusting.

For me it’s usually the fabric first. If it feels nice on my skin and not scratchy or flimsy I already trust it more. I also look at how it hangs and whether it keeps its shape after a bit of wear. Cheap stuff always seems to twist or sag really quickly.
Little details matter too like neat stitching proper hems and buttons that feel solid rather than loose. I’ve got basics from years ago that still look good because they were well made even though they weren’t trendy. I think good quality clothes just feel calm to wear if that makes sense you are not constantly adjusting them or feeling uncomfortable.

Fabric first. Natural fabrics will do their job properly, keep you warm in winter or cool in summer.

Decent fabric and a proper cut with cuffs and top stitching.

All the styling in the world will not make up for these.

A decent hem. About 4-5cm unless it’s a tuck in shirt.

The fabric will be of a decent weight and the item of clothing will be cut accurately.

Ive lost count the number of tops etc whereby you come to iron them and they don’t lie flat on the ironing board as one side seems to be a different shape to the other.

Tops/sleeves that are long enough.

Cheap clothes skimp on these. I’m not that tall, but I hate it.

Quality buttons - pearl, shell, wood, brass , if plastic then a good solid, rigid type.

Generous, triple stitched seams.

Matched patterns

I’m going through my wardrobe. I have too much of everything, to be do fair. But none of it is fast fashion. All of my clothes are good quality. Wool coats, cashmere cardis, cotton dresses. Leather shoes & bags. I’d be reluctant to give them up for more “fashion” items, TBH. I used to love shopping, but I wouldn’t touch much on the high street now…

Cut, fit, quality of material & finish would be my main concern.
