Do you believe in miracles?

Well probably a bit dramatic, but let me outline my little miracle of the day.
Snowed overnight, pavements like ice, roads not too bad.
Had a dental appointment across the city @40 mins drive in good weather.
Set off an hour earlier than my appt just in case.
Got in my car, before I turned on the ignition, thought I'd just get out and further clean passenger side window......as I got out I heard a click, didn't register what it was shut the door behind me and somehow the key fob had activated & locked all my doors......handbag, phone, house keys , car keys all locked inside.

I really could have cried. No way of getting back into my house, no way of getting to my appointment.
Looked over towards my neighbours house (two doors down) shouted across what had happened to the owner in his driveway and asked could he drive me down to my mum's house (a mile away) where my spare house keys were held.
We zoomed down, picked up the keys.
Let myself into my house, got my spare car keys and within a couple of mins I was on my way to my dental appointment.

Made it to the surgery with 2 -3 mins to spare. I was beyond happy and grateful that he'd been outside at the precise moment I needed a miracle.
He was my miracle maker today and I had a fantastic appointment too, my hygienist said that my teeth had never been better.
Do I believe in miracles? YES.

It was a friendly neighbour. Lucky you.

Define "miracle"?

Tolkienista · 05/01/2026 20:08

Probably the wrong word, a miracle to me is something that happens against all the odds.
Believe me as I stood there contemplating my options...... without my phone. Pretty much all my neighbours at work or away from home too.
To see him on his driveway, it just felt like a miracle that he was there and I had a real chance to make it to my appointment.

Yes I agree the "why" is indeed a whole other question.
I'm just happy with how my unexpected mishap turned itself around by the help of a neighbour who I would do exactly the same for if the situation was reversed.

Occasionally! I had a lamb suddenly take a turn for the worse, and the farmer would say things like, "It'll be a bloody miracle if that one lives!" and, "It's a bloody miracle that one's made it through the night!" etc. She couldn't stand up or walk for a long time. With a lot of patience and make-do physiotherapy, she amazed us all by running up to me in great excitement on my birthday. The farmer was staring open-mouthed, with his cup of tea long forgotten. Her name? Miracle... short for Bloody Miracle 😂
