How do you deal with different routines in the same house?

This came up at home recently because everyone seems to be on a slightly different schedule and it’s starting to clash. One person is up early, another is working late, and meals never seem to line up properly anymore. It’s not a big argument or anything, just lots of small adjustments that somehow feel harder than they used to.

How old are all the people? If they are adults or nearly, then you say, "Me/DH is cooking a meal at 7pm. Anyone who wants to eat it, let me know by midday. If not, please cook your own food and clean up afterwards."

That's very generic. If you say roughly what the routines/problems are, people might be able to help better.

I really relate to this. I think it’s one of those things that creeps up on you — no big row, just constant low-level friction.

This really resonates. We’ve found it’s the constant low-level adjusting that’s exhausting rather than any one big issue. What’s helped a bit is being looser about “everyone together” moments and more intentional about the ones that matter, like a shared meal once or twice a week. Otherwise we’d all just end up frustrated trying to force the same routine onto totally different days.

We have this in our house too and it can be surprisingly draining even when no one is actually arguing. When everyone is on a different rhythm it feels like you are always adjusting and never fully switching off. What helped us a bit was being more flexible about meals and not trying to force everyone to sit down together every time. Accepting that routines change over time made it feel less stressful and more manageable.

We have this and I agree with FajarvVega that it's surprisingly draining. No good answer I'm afraid but I'm here for the tips.

We just had to all be a bit organised. So everyone had a slot for the bathroom in the morning and dc had set days to do their washing. With meals we did as suggested above and just said let me know during the day if you want food I am cooking and if not they made their own. We all had to cooperate really but there were some clashes but most of the time worked ok.

I’d say the first response cracks it. In theory! It is bloody annoying but sometimes quite liberating too, if everyone clears up after themselves that is.
