Trying to figure out logistics of a cold icy morning

I have an appointment in the city on Tuesday morning. I live about 15 miles from the city in a rural location. I don't drive. I would have to walk approx a mile to a bus stop at about 7.15 am. I did this many times before and it's ok. However it's now very cold and freezing. I woke up to a heavy frost this morning. I dont know if snow or ice will come.

This will make travelling into the city more complicated. I don't get on well on ice when on foot. It's somewhat bearable when it's bright out and I can see. It's still difficult.

I am half thinking about booking a room in the city for Monday night and travelling Monday night and staying overnight. There are some ok-ish offers on hotel rooms at this time whereas usually the price would be high.

Is that madness? Booking a room in my local city for the Monday night instead of battling conditions on Tuesday morning?

I wonder, if I was to leave booking a room until the last minute, would prices drop further?

I would definitely consider the money on a hotel room to be money well spent in your shoes. Doubt prices will change in 48 hours. Is it pretty likely the appointment will go ahead as planned?

Would also consider a taxi all the way there, depending on availability in your rural town at that time in the morning.

You will have saved hundreds of pounds over the years through not having a car, so if it's affordable try not to sweat it too much 🙂

I think a hotel room is a great decision, even if you hire a taxi and it begins to snow over night you will have that on your mind if he'll make it etc .
Previous poster put it perfectly, with all the money you've saved by not owning a car you can afford to treat yourself. Loosen the purse strings and push the boat out

Can no one give you a lift into the city? If I had an elderly neighbour in your situation I’d be more than happy to do it if asked.(sorry, im
assuming you’re older bc you mention
you’re not good on ice). Is a pre-booked taxi out of the question?

I think the hotel is a good idea otherwise - and yes if you wait until the night before it should be cheaper. I’ve booked same day on booking.com many times and it’s usually always cheaper if you can hold your nerve (and January won’t be busy).

Wouldn’t you be better getting a taxi. Would be cheaper than a hotel room

I'd book a hotel in that scenario.

A hotel seems a very sensible thing to do, especially if the appointment is important or would be an inconvenience to cancel then rearrange.
Walking on icy pavements, in the dark, worrying if the bus will be on time, doesn't sound great. The hotel will give you peace of mind.
