I’m a Londoner anyway but wanted to live somewhere glamorous & warm like Malibu or Beverly Hills

Australia. Everyone in my class did! We grew up watching home&away. Nowadays my Aussie friend thinks it's hilarious how popular the show is here.

In 1962 my parents took me to the cinema to watch Tiara Tahiti & I just could not get it out of my mind, those beautiful beaches, sunny weather etc & I used to long to end up somewhere beautiful like that.
At 18 I applied to become a £10 migrant to Aus ( on my own) and ended up here at 20.
It has turned out to be a wonderful life & every day I do feel so lucky to live here.

manhattan! Never managed a permanent move but did spend a week a month out there for 3 years through work which was fab. Wouldn’t want to live there now busy still love a visit!

Central London, or a large country house, specifically Fairlawn House in Kent.

London. My dad lived there from me being about 8 so I spent a lot of time down there and loved it. I haven’t lived there but still would gladly. I prefer big cities.

I grew up in a fairly small village in England and absolutely loved it, never wanted to move away but did so for university and then got jobs in various places. Have lived for past 20 years in Wales but still desperate to move back to home village. Am now 4 years away from retirement and planning to retire to exact village, just saving up as much as possible to be able to afford it as properties are expensive there. Still have friends and family in the area 🧡 Can't wait!

A big council estate. I was just so jealous of all the kids I knew on the rough estates, who seemed to be able to live wild, and everyone just wandered in and out of each others houses. I also loved all the noise, music blaring out of windows, kids yelling, motorbikes zooming. It just felt like silence going back to our semi-posh detached house.

I did live somewhere like that for a while, and it was by far my favourite place. But my husband wouldn't tolerate the 'roughness' so I've had to compromise.

Out in the country side. Nearish to the sea.

I have the opposite experience and would have loved to live in a regular street consisting of 1920/30’s semis like my secondary school friends did.

Paris, having read The Pursuit of Love on repeat as a teenager. I actually did live and work there for a year, in an apartment by myself, and it was wonderful. But now I am stuck in Home Counties suburbia!

Beautiful big house n the village I grew up . Or a big city like New York or Londonm .Still would like to live in a big city but only if I could do it in style.

In my fantasies, Manhattan of the 1940s as portrayed in b&w films. In reality, I’m a Londoner and absolutely love it and always have, it brings me joy every day

When I was little I had a, what I considered to be, a very posh Auntie who lived in Esher, to my small mind her house was the poshest place EVER, she had a green Onyx coffee table with a cut glass lighter and ashtray set and wonder of wonders, a serving hatch. I figured that everyone in Esher was posh and lived luxurious lives 😂I have never lived there😂

Davros · 05/08/2026 10:52

I’ve changed my mind, I’m moving to Esher now

Holymolymoon · 05/08/2026 10:55

I grew up in the Fens, so I really wanted to live on the side of a mountain. I now live somewhere really hilly and miss the flat (I want to ride my bicycle...)

When I was very young I wanted to be a goat farmer. So I'd live in a very old cottage/farmhouse in rural bliss surrounded by dogs, goats and chickens. When I became a teenager I wanted to be a free spirit with no home or baggage and just wander wherever the fancy took me, meeting all sorts of characters along the way.

Rookie93 · 05/08/2026 11:34

In a mews house. To visit one of my aunts we used to take a short cut down a very posh mews full of what seemed beautiful little houses and I can remember longing to see inside them.
