Flu etc…. How did you get better?!

Started with flu A back in November which absolutely floored me. Took weeks to start feeling better and regain appetite etc. Felt very fatigued i to December, no energy for gym. Mid December I started with sinus symptoms and was given antibiotics by the pharmacist. Two days later tested positive for Covid. Every day since then has been tired, irritating cough, sore throat, lack of food interest… it’s got to the point I feel very down. I know so many people have been ill this winter, how did you get back on your feet and well again?????

I just did what my body would let me, and didn’t go to the gym. You need to rest, your body has had a lot to contend with.
Get some vitamins in you, plenty of fluids, and plenty of protein and fruit.

I could have written your post, OP. I have been ill on and off since October.

I am actually nervous to say that I am on the other side of it (hideous cold, followed by the Covid thing, followed by another sore throat etc). But I think I am and I feel genuinely excited about being healthy. in the end I think it was: sleep, holidays, vitamins, sleep, positivity.

Treat your body like you are recovering from a chronic illness - google this there are lots of step by step plans. Basically, sleep, hydration, vitamins, food, gentle exercise, mental relaxation. Also ask your gp to do your bloods to check your not deficient in anything.

Convalescence - a prolonged period to recover focused on very good eating - huge variety of vegetables - and gentle exercise - walking outside plus vitamin D , low stress and lots of lounging on the sofa. Your system is run down and that’s why is can’t fight anything

and next year think about buying a flu jab

bumphousebump · 03/01/2026 09:47

I had the flu jab as did husband . We both had flu in October and now have a really bad cough and feel shattered. Husband is on his 3 rd virus of the year and understandably pissed off and a bit worried.

I started just before Christmas day and suspect I have cycled through two separate illnesses. I haven't felt particularly ill with them though and my energy levels have been reasonable for the time of year. The cough has been hideous, especially at the dry phase.

So, rest. A walk on the brighter days as the fresh air does seem to help and moving about and being upright does seem to help get the mucus up. It's good to get the lymph going too..
B vitamins and lots of vitamin c, an electrolyte and vitamin D.
Nettle tea which is a natural anti inflammatory. Elderberry syrup that I made a few weeks ago and contains other anti inflammatory herbs. I also have a tea cupboard that has lots of herbs that I've collected so I've played about with different combinations but nettle and thyme has been very good. Thyme kills strep bacteria.
Green tea thins mucous.
