What should I put in a British food hamper?

My friend had just received her British Citizenship and is having a little party. I want to make her a hamper of British foods. Any suggestions? So far I have: Yorkshire tea, digestives, marmite, English Mustard, some Union Jack napkins, some local
honey and some English sparkling wine. I am struggling to think of much else (that does not need to be refrigerated).

Any suggestions?

First thoughts were Scottish shortbread, Branston pickle and baked beans!

Selection of cheeses....the ones in wax that you don't have to refrigerate.

Welsh cakes - M &S stocks them
Some good marmalade.

Littlehouseinthebigcity · 03/01/2026 06:43

What a lovely idea! I would add some shortbread (more traditionally Scottish of course but that’s still British!), some crisps or crackers potentially with traditionally English flavour and some traditional sweets - rhubarb and custards and some fruit pastilles or similar? You could also include chocolate orange!

MushMonster · 03/01/2026 06:43

Chutney, cheese and crackers.
Shortbread.

A trio of stilton, cheddar and wensleydale cheese along with a good quality chutney (branston pickle can go in there for britishness but does not qualify)

A couple of scones, and a mini tub of clotted cream with some jam.

Crumpets.

WarmGreyHare · 03/01/2026 06:53

Crumpets
Jaffa cakes
Cider (proper local ones)
There is English rape seed oil if you want fancy cooking stuff.
Baked beans 😅
Ambrosia custard
Steamed pudding. The tinned ones or you can get nice ones delivered (Georgie porgies are amazing) like spotted dick and treacle sponge.
English mustard
Fudge (plenty of proper local ones around)

Wishing14 · 03/01/2026 06:54

Stick of rock, fudge

siucra · 03/01/2026 07:14

My thought would be not just awful UK brands. A hamper of Branston pickle and Wotsits is dismal. I think posh it up, go for Tyrrels crisps and Tiptree, decent crackers, proper cheese, Green and Blacks etc. (just my random selection?). Yorkshire teabags, Soreen etc.

Sunnyside4 · 03/01/2026 07:15

If you don't mind putting in perishables, do you have any cheeses that are made locally, ie Cheddar, Wensleydale, Gloucester? Or maybe Victoria Sandwich cake or scones.
