Wool duvet advice

Axlcat · 01/01/2026 13:28

We need a new duvet. Currently have a feather & down 4.5 tog from soak and sleep but use it all year round as hot sleepers (usually throw a dressing gown on top in winter)

Perimenopause has got me sweaty at night (no hot flushes just hot) and it looks like wool could be a good option but I’m confused by the tog / warmth level to get. Those that have them - would you recommend and if so what sort of tog? Advice on other non sweaty materials welcome!

I’ve always had night sweats and the only thing that has stopped them has been a 4 tog wool duvet and a wool mattress topper. We just use layers of wool blankets when it’s chilly in winter which makes it really easy to adjust my temperature as required.

We have one of these:

It replaced our 3-in-1 all seasons duvet!
It's great - warm in winter, cool enough in all but a heatwave.
The single sizes can be washed and dried in a domestic machine, but we have to take our Superking to a launderette (usually once a year-ish).
Highly recommended - wouldn't go back!
Other brands mention different weights /togs as per normal duvets but this one claims to be all season and I would agree after 15 years!!

Same for me. In the summer I just have a sheet but the rest of the year the woll duvet with layer blanket if it's cold.

I have a 3 tog wool one and use a throw on top when it’s very cold or a pj top. Obviously in summer just a sheet at most.

Thanks everyone. I see the togs are not exact and many say 4-7 togs. I’m wondering if this would be too warm? The lower one looks super light! @Supperlite where is yours from?

I got a bundle from the wool room. There is a winter sale which is useful! I’ll post links. I love the duvet and mattress topper, but wouldn’t recommend the pillows as they are quite firm!

Mattress topper

Washable Duvet

The duvet I have is “light”. There is another type of duvet which is cheaper and not washable.

Hope you find something that works nicely for you!

DH is a terribly hot sleeper whereas I normally run cold but menopause is changing that.

We have 3 Baavets, superlight for summer, light (4-7 ish tog) we use now and medium that we can't use as too warm now.

Love it!

RandomMess · 01/01/2026 20:19

I have a wool mattress topper too.

Sprig1 · 01/01/2026 20:35

I have a light Baavet and it is perfect. I like being toasty.

RuudGullitOnAShed · 01/01/2026 21:10

We have th e medium weight Baavet and use it all year round. We’ve ditched our electric blanket as it’s so cosy. I had intended to buy the light weight baavet for the summer but didn’t need to as we find our temperature seems to regulate better than with our old synthetic or feather duvets

Axlcat · 02/01/2026 19:04

Thanks everyone! I feel like I’m right in the middle of light and medium so think I’m going to go with light - great that I can trial it for 30 nights with wool room so if too cold I’ll swap

We have the medium quilt from the wool room too and mattress protector. I can't say I have seen much difference not sweat wise disappointingly and bought a lighter one from Argos for summer. Might put the wool room quilt on this weekend as it's going to be very cold.

We were sent pillows instead of the protector and customer service was very good from them too so can definitely recommend wool room

I am very interested. I have night sweats that are getting very annoying and require me to change bedsheets every day. Would a wool duvet stop them?

RandomMess · 02/01/2026 20:07

If the light one isn’t warm enough just add a throw. It’s so cold at the moment that most of the year I think you would find it fine.

Blarn · 02/01/2026 20:08

I bought a slumberdown one as I wasn't sure if I wanted to spend big bucks on something we might not get on with. I love it! I also get sweaty at night and this has definitely helped, I think I sweat a bit less but it is also just much more comfortable. I don't get hot overnight, just sweaty so we got one which is a 10.5-13 tog equivalent for winter and its lovely to sleep under. I am going to splash out on a fancier wool mattress topper.

NannyR · 02/01/2026 20:11

I have a medium weight baavet and I use it all year round. On very cold nights I will chuck an extra blanket on and on very hot nights I use just a sheet, but the rest of the time, just the duvet keeps me at a perfect temperature.

FruitWordSalad · 02/01/2026 20:16

We've got the middling Baavet one and a Devon Duvets topper. The weather can be very cold in the winter and very hot in the summer where we live, but it's perfect in anything but a heatwave.

RoseLavenderBlue · 02/01/2026 20:24

I bought a wool duvet from Slumberdown in the light weight (they also do a medium and heavy weight) after reading a review in Your Home magazine where the reviewer had used it sleeping in a loft bedroom in the summer and found it comfortable and not overly hot.

Unfortunately, we have tried it twice (not summer) and found it too hot. We normally use a 4.5 tog goose feather all year round but with a fleece blanket in the winter.

I think I might try it again this coming week as it’s cold at night now as it’s such a shame to not use it and what do I do with it. We also sleep with the windows open all year round and live in an old farmhouse. Maybe DH and I are just naturally cool sleepers?!
