New Years Resolutions?

Icanttakethisanymore · 30/12/2025 07:23

Anyone making New Year’s resolutions this year? The main thing I would like to change is to be more consistent with exercise but I think need to define that better for a resolution.

Anyone else got any in mind?

Oh, and possibly spend less time scrolling on MN!

I don't make them. If I choose to make some change I tend to focus on the period of Lent, a defined period, not an open ended one.

EmpressaurusKitty · 30/12/2025 07:28

Mostly around carrying on with my exercise plan from this year, not spending so much in coffee shops & visiting family more often, but the main new one is to learn basic Norwegian before my holiday there in September.

I've stopped making NY resolutions as I never kept to them. However I do set goals which IMO are smaller and more achievable.

  1. Ensuring I take my supplements and HRT.
  2. Increase my exercise to help with arthritic knee and hip.
  3. Stop doom scrolling at 2am.
DeanElderberry · 30/12/2025 07:49

I only ever really made one, more than 30 years ago, and I still try to stick to it.

Trust my intuition. Don't always try to analyse or explain or justify. Sometimes the gut knows long before the brain does.

I think in reality this is what I’m doing too. I’m going to add ‘take my vitamins’ to my list!

Very nice - keeping it simple!

Well last year I lost 80lb … but I still have a lot to go , however it’s really slowing down now.

my target next year is 25lb (2 stone ) which is half a pound a week , nice and steady away .

I also want to half my debt (£1500)

and double my savings (£1000)

I also want to learn something… ha . Likely my level 2 Bsl qualification.

support my daughter to finish her level 3 (on my part it’s gentle nagging to finish assignments and larger nagging to wake her up in a morning 🙄)

I also want to replace my doors and boiler this year .

and continue with my sons maths tutor.

oh hell that’s a lot of money related stuff. Maybe my resolution should be to do more overtime 🤣

Wow! That’s a great list.

I think I might do an exercise in culling unnecessary subscriptions and making sure I’m not on tariffs which are too expensive.

I’m not making NY resolutions as such but am going to refocus my energy on hydration, diet and exercise that I’ve let slip this month. I’ve been doing those things all year but December has been very busy and tiring so everything has slipped. I feel much better within myself when I’m hitting these daily goals so going to use the ny as a time to become more aligned

Belladog1 · 30/12/2025 09:52

I don't make resolutions as such, but 2025 was a year of change for me. I separated from my husband in March and I'm living alone for the first time in my life (I'm 51). I have a new partner and I started my HRT journey.

Next year I would like a calmer year. Plus, since starting HRT I've gained 10Ibs, and that was the week before Christmas. Probably more now. So i need to start healthy eating. I've got a Waitrose delivery arriving at the weekend in preparation, filled with lovely healthy food.

NerrSnerr · 30/12/2025 10:02

I love a New Year’s resolution and have loads. I like to keep myself busy and do so much better mentally if I’m doing stuff.

Mine are- run 365 miles. I love running and don’t do it enough.
Get up to 600 geocache finds- it’s my favourite thing traipsing through the countryside at 6am when it’s quiet.
Top 1000 boulders- my daughter is a climber and I spend far too long sat in climbing centres or just standing and watching her so I’m joining in this year.
Read 30 books- I need to read instead of doom scrolling at night, I have so many books to read.
Keep my weight in single figures, Finally got under 10 stone last year for the first time after having children. Determined to keep it off.

i almost certainly won’t do them all but like to keep focussed.

AndresyFiorella · 30/12/2025 10:25

I love your goals NerrSnerr.

I have started cold water swimming and Toumo (Wim Hof) breathing which has made a massive difference to my mental health, so my main goal is to continue with that.

I also want to let myself relax a bit more
Normally term time weekends are housework on Saturday and school work on Sunday (teacher). I'm going to try and give myself permission to relax on a Sunday afternoon and do something nice with DD.

Ooooo - my recollection from using watercolours at school was that it's tricky! Are you an artist?

I always set goals for the new year, but I also look at my daily and weekly schedule to work out how Im going to execute the goals and work out strategies and habit stacks to make it more likely that I will stick to them. I've made a lot of progress over the years doing things this way. I recommend the James Clear book.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 30/12/2025 11:47

I don’t generally make New Year’s resolutions because I tend to fail before I start but I am doing dry January, never succeeded before! I have the aim of carrying on after January with only drinking alcohol on holidays and when we eat out.

Also plan to set some exercise goals, probably on a month by month basis with the aim of doing more than this year.

I lost 4 and a half stone this year and have gone from obese to a very healthy weight as well as getting fitter and stronger so I’m pleased with my progress. Didn’t start until 18th January though, that was my first day of intermittent fasting. This is after about a decade of steadily gaining weight! Feel like if I’d set it as a resolution, I would have failed.

My resolution is to stop buying lip balm and perfume and use my stash that I have . I have a bad habit of always buying expensive lip balm & refills when there 20% off ( Dior, Prada etc ) I’ve come to see this offer is actually often so I do not need to buy any.
I have at least 10 -15 to use before I run out.
Same perfume I have around 30 bottles of different ones I’m going to try my hardest not to buy things I do not need this year. Good luck all
