Period and very heavy bleeding on blood thinner for DVT

Hi all,

just looking for a bit of advice.
I came off my mini pill 2 weeks ago as I was just bleeding the whole time. I gave it 3 months and I've just decided to track as I'm going through a divorce and not sexually active anyway at the moment.

period started 2 days ago. Incidentally I was also diagnosed with a DVT yesterday and started straight away on apixaban 10mg in the morning and 10mg night time.

well today this period has been fucking horrific excuse my language. The cramps and pains are awful, but I'm bleeding through massively. I've soaked through to my underwear 4 times today and I'm wearing a heavy flow tampon and pads. I'm having to change every hour. Not yet under an hour but it's on the cusp.

im also just feeling rotten. First period coming off this pill, period pain, leg pain from the DVT and just feeling a bit sorry for myself. My joints feel sore and I don't know if that's withdrawals form the pill (desorex, a POP) as I've read apixaban can cause joints to ache too.

is this a concern? I'm guessing it'll settle. I did make the male doctor aware yesterday I was on my period but he didn't seem to say much about it.

I have going DD to look after and I just feel rotten.

re the clot I'm being tested as to why I've got it. I do have a heart condition (LQTS) but I'm otherwise active fit and healthy and don't smoke. Slim weight wise.

just having a grumpy moan and seeing if anyone has any advice as my thread from yesterday has gone a bit quiet and I didn't mention the period issue on there as it hadn't got bad yet!

thanks all and a belated merry Christmas x

Soaking through every hour is the thing that means you should contact someone for help, that added with the other stuff is a clear indicator that you need to seek medical advice now OP. Phone 111

Unfortunately, this happens on Apixaban - I ended up very anaemic so you need to keep an eye on this. I did find on about day 3 of my period that things settled down, but not much consultation!
