I got ill on Christmas Day evening. Flu type thing. Crushing headache. Cough. Chills. unable to get warm. Sneezing. Shortness of breath.

It’s now 29th and I feel wiped out. Just want to sleep and have zero energy. I only have the headache and shortness of breath now.

It’s time off work wasted. I did too much yesterday and was feeling dreadful again in the evening. Shall I just stay in bed? Yes, I am asking for permission as I feel guilty and lazy.

Permission granted. As you've found out, overdoing it is a false economy and slows down recovery

I am on the exact same timeline as you. Have missed all festivities and currently in bed for 5th day in a row. Be kind to yourself and take it easy

Me too! Started on the 19th. Managed to get up for a shower yesterday but it wiped me out, zero energy. No appetite either which is just as well as I never got any food in. I live alone but being nursed by my three cats who think staying in bed is fabulous. I'm off for two weeks and keep thinking about all the jobs I wanted to get done in the house.

I'm with you on this. Currently on day 4 of this illness. And it sucks! I had so many plans for this time. I should be having days out now, trips to the coast and eating fish and chips. Getting a wardrobe painted. DH is currently on day 5 and has recovered enough to get out and buy more paracetamol.
I have no appetite. On the plus side it gets slightly better each day and today I managed to brush my hair.
I'll probably be well just before it's time to return to work.

Stay in bed definitely. I started on Xmas eve with it, somehow managed to do Xmas lunch before climbing into bed. When I did get up it was to change scenery onto the sofa for the day but still doing nothing. My husband is a day behind me with it. He’s just got up had a shower and will be on the sofa all day. I think the key is rest, rest and more rest.

Me too, started Boxing Day evening. Sleep for the win 🥳. Stay in bed!

I've come down for a cuppa and to do a wash load...straight back to sleep when they're done 💤.

BCBird · 29/12/2025 11:11

Just rest. If there are others to fetch and carry for u let them.

DMCWelshcakes · 29/12/2025 11:19

I hereby grant you permission to stay in bed until your body declares that you are better.

HumbleTalkativeMum · 29/12/2025 11:20

Oh you absolutely have permission — bed is the only place you should be right now 😴. That sounds like a really nasty bug, and it’s no wonder you’re still wiped out. You’re not lazy, you’re recovering. Resting is productive when your body’s been through so much. I hope you can let go of the guilt and just let yourself be cared for. Sending gentle thoughts and hoping you feel a little lighter soon 💛.

My dd (22) had flu recently and it took her a good couple of weeks to recover. She went out too soon and regretted it - rest was the only solution.

Snap. It's so disappointing.
