What to do with torn/stained clothes?

I have a bag of clothes/rags such as old underwear, T-shirts that got splattered with bleach, linen trousers where the crutch ripped through and can't be fixed and things moths have nibbled through.

I don't want to burden a charity shop, as its clearly things they can't re-sell. Where to take them? Do you bin them in rubbish? Put them in a charity type bin rather than a charity shop? Does anywhere take rags?

Our recycling centre (aka The Tip) takes rags. You just put them in a bag and label it as such. Try googling your local one to see if they do the same?

Local garages will take them as rag. It costs garages loads in rags - minus the underwear 😉

a couple of local charity shops take them for rag bags which they get money for

There's a charity bin for "unusable textiles" in our small town, alongside the st johns/air ambulance clothing bins

Most councils have fabric recycling bins

Ask your charity shop. One here will take them if you bag them and mark as rags. Cotton tops with bleach stains get used a pj's tops for me at times. I have also been known to cut up some worn out clothes and use for cleaning.

The Firefighters Charity have clothes recycling bins, usually outside the fire station. That's sold in bulk for recycling if it can't be worn.

Thanks everyone. To clarify, I have re-used, repaired what I can and use the old, bleached, torn things in the garden- only stopping when its becomes socially unacceptable to do so when too much flesh is on view from a tear. 😬

No idea why I never thought of just bagging them up and labelling them as rags? There are a few local bins which aren't overflowing as yet, so shall be heading there. Thanks again.
