Nappies?
Summer clothes for 6 -9 months?

KirriIrry · 27/12/2025 19:29

What about opening some sort of account for the baby - premium bonds or an ISA or something? I’m not sure if you need your sister on board first though, as it may be a parent that has to ‘own’ the account. Then just a little toy or similar to open to go with it.

Buy something for her, the baby will receive loads…

One gift we got for our DC that we would never have thought of, but was brilliant and we now buy them as gifts, is a lambskin. There are ones intended for babies. You can transfer it to pram, pushchair, Moses basket, cot. Our youngest is nearly 9 and still cuddles his!

A special children's book, you can never have too many

Aslican · 27/12/2025 19:43

Vouchers for takeaway or Cook ready meals - I think they even do a new parents discount.

SouthLondonMum22 · 27/12/2025 19:44

a little 'essentials' basket with baby calpol, thermometer, soft baby toothbrush, baby nail trimmer etc?

BendingSpoons · 27/12/2025 19:45

I like the star wraps. We get them from Tuppence and Crumble. They are practical and cute.

Best thing you will ever get!

If not that then nice baby bath stuff from Neals yard etc?

NameChange30 · 27/12/2025 19:53

Is it her first baby?

Milestone cards or one of those milestone blanket things (for taking photos at 1, 2, 3 months etc)

And another vote for Cook vouchers!

tuvamoodyson · 27/12/2025 19:56

Premium bonds.

Madeamistake21 · 27/12/2025 20:07

Thank you, yes first baby

She has bugaboo fox 5, maxi cosi pebble, bedside crib and moses basket, baby bjorn carrier, so many clothes, muslins, bibs etc.

I bought my friend cook vouchers a couple of years ago and they really apreciated them so I may do that.

Some really good ideas, thank you

Another vote for cook vouchers. I was lucky enough to actually get a package of the frozen meals delivered as a gift.

If you absolutely need to get something for the baby, then i’d say a ‘cold package’ as in, stuff for when they get the sniffles. So like calpol, vapour bath, nasal bulb etc.

Pineapplewaves · 27/12/2025 20:18

Gift vouchers because it’s not until you have the baby that you find out the clothes are too small or too big or by the time they fit baby they’ll be out of season. It’s only when you have the baby that you realise you need some items that you might not have even considered before. Before I gave birth to DS I bought him an expensive, vibrating musical bouncy chair which he hated and thankfully I had vouchers that I could use to buy a plain basic bouncy chair without the bells and whistles.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 27/12/2025 20:22

A nappy bin

Bitzee · 27/12/2025 20:22

Things for her! Cook vouchers, bottle of fizz or whatever she likes to drink once she can indulge again, nice handwash and lotion because there’s a lot of handwashing with all the nappies, no spill cup to keep her hot drinks warm whilst she’s feeding, new water bottle, nice snacks, fancy dressing gown for when she’s up doing the night feeds - that sort of thing. If you specifically want something for baby I’d gift money for their savings account.

NuffSaidSam · 27/12/2025 20:24

I'd get a selection of books, particularly ones that were your favourites as children.

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 27/12/2025 20:28

Baby PJs for 9/12 months, then bits for her, Badedas bath bits for her (helps with healing), nipple cream, good hand cream as she’ll have her hands in water all the time. Maybe a subscription to audible so she has something to listen to when she’s feeding? Again ready cooked meals or vouchers!

These are all good suggestions. Definitely gifts for her!

And if you want to get something big for the baby, a playmat or a baby bjorn bouncer (they're expensive so might be over budget)

Tammygirl12 · 27/12/2025 20:47

Cook vouchers were our best gift

mindutopia · 27/12/2025 20:50

Something for herself. When baby is born, send her a hamper with some lovely coffee and teas, chocolates, dried fruit/nice dates, luxury brownies, nice hand cream. The baby is well looked after usually. I felt like I’d been hit by a lorry, needed coffee, snacks and something to moisturise my hands that I was washing 400 times a day.

mindutopia · 27/12/2025 20:51

Or if she doesn’t have one, a yeti mug or flask for hot drinks.

Madeamistake21 · 27/12/2025 20:52

So thinking of the tuppence star wrap (think this is amazing) and maybe tommee tippee swaddle bag and seen the nightime pip sleeping aid but is it worth it?!

Madeamistake21 · 27/12/2025 20:55

She has got everything so cook vouchers would be good and pampering mum things. Plus the star wrap. I cant afford too much but want to buy something meaningful

Bath time bundle? Even if she's already bought stuff she will use it all eventually. You can get some beautiful caddies on Etsy
