Hey, has anyone ever fitted their own shower in as I only have a bath tub and I doubt they’ll be fitting in any showers for a very long time to come. I have tried the shower head that u put over the taps but they caused leaks into my downstairs neighbours flat. Also roughly how much would it be to get one fitted

Dont forget, you will need permission, tiling around the shower area and a curtain/screen too.

Our council fitted a shower in my council flat - they have a policy of renewing bathrooms and kitchens every 15 years. So if yours is that old check and see if they have an upgrade program planned.

My sister had her own electric shower installed in her council flat at her own expense. She didn't ask permission and tbh I don't see how they'd ever know, as they don't do property inspections. I can't remember exactly how much it cost. They had extra tiles added (paid a plumber to do it) and the shower curtain and rail cost about £20 from Argos.

You’d need permission and on going maintenance would be down to you as well.

In my old house we didn't have a shower so I bought one and got someone in to fit it. HA wasn't fussed as long as I kept the paperwork from the work that was done.

The walls where already tiled around the bath up to the ceiling and when we moved they never had an issue with it either, infact it played up with the people who live there now and the HA replaced it with no issues apparently they had to honor it being there when the new tenants moved in - I know the people who live there now.

Just give them a call and ask as I'm sure each HA is different 🙂

You'll most likely need permission but check there is not a government stock upgrade initiative on the horizon. I used to live in central London and every few years there would be massive upgrades to social housing with skips full of the old kitchens and bathrooms.
