My mate is saying I’m wrong for supporting more than 1 National football team in football

So just for context.

I was born and raised in London to Nigerian Parents ( had a short Stint in Nigeria from age 2-4/2-5)

At age 13 to 21, I lived in Nigeria

I then came back to London at age 21, been back for close to 8 years now.

I do support both England and Nigeria in different competitions, which he feels is wrong!!! He’s saying I should only commit to supporting 1 National football team.

Would love to hear your perspective on this 👀?

I agree with you OP.

Loads of people with dual nationality will support both teams. What a stupid thing for him to say.
You can support as many teams as you like for whatever reason you like.

Kick him into touch (or is that rugby?)

Yes.

I've said this before, I'm convinced these posts are like a secret signal for spy rings etc. When OP just posted this, a covert Russian operation was kicked off.

It's entirely up to you isn't it?

Are you a supporter or a fan?

Not that it makes much difference really but if it's the former, I imagine it gets quite expensive.

I'm a fan of both England and Ireland in the rugby, due to being born in England to Irish parents.

Your friend is clearly a mug. Just ignore them. You can support fifty teams or none. Why would he care?

dexter09 · 27/12/2025 11:52

@KissMyArt, you got dual nationality, and have a connection to support both national teams

I think cause he was born somewhere to exactly the same country of the parents, he doesn’t fully understand the experience

He doesn't need to understand the experience to understand the concept.

If you haven't posted about this before this must be a uniquely Nigerian heritage living in London problem because I have definitely read this before.

Yes, the OP posts version of this regularly, differently inflected, but always about being Nigerian/British. The friend in this case is almost certainly imaginary.

murasaki · 27/12/2025 12:03

This is at least your 4th thread on this.

I thought the same - it's very familiar.
