Gestational Diabetes test- .1 under 7.8

I know it’s a pregnancy question but posting for traffic…..
So my fasting level was low but post glucose drink it was 7.7.
I know it falls in the normal range but I’m a bit concerned how close I was to being diagnosed with GD!
Has anyone else been in a similar position? Did you still follow the diet?

I was the same with my last pregnancy. I continued to eat normally and asked the midwife if there would be further testing later on down the line as my result was so close, but she said there wouldn’t be.

In my experience, I started measuring too big bump wise towards the end of preg and they had me do a weeks worth of testing at home that confirmed i had developed GD by then. But by that point I was 39 weeks preg, so I was induced a few days later as a scan showed baby was over 9lbs in weight (born weighing 8lbs 3) and they wanted him out sooner rather than later

@pollydollydoo thank you for replying 🙏🏼
I have mild polyhydramos, so 8cm is cut off, my deepest pool is 8.1cm.
I had the test 3 weeks ago, saw on the message it was normal range so didn’t think anything of it. It was only today looking closely at numbers I noticed how close I was to 7.8 and just feel a bit lost 🫣

I simply tested positive so not the same boat. With that said, I checked im regularly with a well known GD consultant at UCLH which I paid for privately.

As my pregnancy progressed despite eating properly I found my sugars began rising regardless and I ended up having y take metformin. The consultant said it was very common for this to happen esp towards the end of pregnancy...so in your case, in your shoes if you can I'd try and monitor my own sugars and keep a record. That way you'll know if you tip into the GD range and can then be properly monitored.

If you're worried then you could tweak your diet to balance out the risk.

GD is diet controlled to begin with so reduce your sugar and carb intake, balance your meals with veg, protein and some fats. Then if you are borderline, or do develop it, you're doing all the right things anyway.

A walk after a meal also helps with blood sugars.

I had the same, and then a few weeks later had +++ glucose in my urine. I then tested blood with a monitor after meals and that confirmed I had developed GD

Thank you for all your messages.

I might try and get hold of my midwife tomorrow just for a chat as my anxiety hasn’t been great this pregnancy anyway!

Ive been mindful of my diet anyway since the polyhydramos was diagnosed but obviously the GD diet takes it to another level.

I haven’t got a midwife appt now until January which is when I’ll be close to my c section date (having this for other medical reasons not for the mild polyhydramos)

Like I said, just feel a bit lost as I’m the one that’s flagged it up, not been advised to do anything in any midwife appts, the result has just surprised me a bit today.

I think as long as you pass, the midwife won’t really comment much on it, even if you are close to borderline. My midwife was helpful but basically just said there had to be a cut off somewhere and that they wouldn’t monitor it further unless you started having a large bump or there was lots of sugar showing in your urine samples.

It’s always easier said than done, but try not to worry too much. Maybe after Xmas use the home testing kits to just see how your sugars are after your meals if you want to keep an eye on it for peace of mind.
