If you don't drive (or even if you do), do you have a yearly Uber budget?

Just that really - do you have a budget for Uber that you try and stick to? How does this compare to the cost of running a car?

This year I've taken a few Uber trips that've cost £150+ (on top of regular trips in/around town), and felt very extravagant each time! But they're a drop in the ocean compared with the cost of running a car.

No, I did drive, but can no longer do so due to ill health. I dont have much money so an uber is a last resort (and also we live in a village and its more expensive than in town).
My need often fluctuates depending on any medical appointments (and timings) so I'd find it difficult to set an amount as when I do book its a necessity. But this last few weeks I've had to pay for 3 unplanned ubers (due to dc1 needing to go to a and e) so maybe I should have an emergency uber budget for this. Its definitely cheaper than running a car though.

My SIL doesn't drive and never has. She doesn't have an uber budget as such, but more "permissable uber situations" eg coming to us at Christmas when carrying presents, need to get somewhere unavoidable in the pouring rain, etc. That works for her.

I don't drive. I've taken one taxi this year, when I needed to be somewhere very early morning. I wouldn't use taxis/Ubers day to day so I don't budget for it. Public transport is good where I am.

This is what I tend to do too.

I walk everywhere and get public transport to work.

I get Ubers when it'd hugely improve my life to do so. I'm currently sat in the back of an Uber on a 150-mile trip to avoid shitty Sunday, Christmas trains 🤣

Kind of.
Dh uses around €1000 as work expense taxis a year when he needs to get a taxi to a certain airport for work. It’s cheaper than us owning a second car.

Theres 3 airports roughly within 2 hrs from us, 2 are accessible by train if needed, but the 3rd isn’t without lots of changes and buses, plus airport parking, toll charges etc wouldnt save much anyway. The flights are always around 9am so not possible either without leaving night before if not in Taxi

We live in London and don’t own a car. Although we don’t have an official Uber budget I may take a few trips a month when it’s difficult by bus or train or the kids are tired and it comes from our discretionary spending money. It’s far less than running a car and we don’t need to worry about the hassle of parking. I also splash out on first class travel for long train journeys, and again, over a year it comes nowhere close to owning a car.

I just checked my spending for this year. It was £150 on Uber and £70 on Bolt (abroad). TBH I’m surprised it wasn’t more. We have a local cab company we use for airport trips, so that’s separate. Occasionally I get a black cab, now those I consider extravagant.

No. I don't drive but I really, really hate taking taxis. I hate being in a car with a stranger, it makes me feel vulnerable and awkward. I don't use uber, if I have to take a taxi, I use an 'old fashioned' taxi service. Otherwise I walk or use public transport. I probably use a taxi once or twice a year. My DH drives and we have a car, thankfully, otherwise it might have to happen a lot more often.
