I’m going to a Farmer’s Market tomorrow & would much rather buy my Christmas veg there than in the supermarket but wonder if it’s a little early?

It will be fine. Carrots, sprouts, potatoes are all very hardy!

Our veg box veg were delivered today and I do think it too early really. Depends how big your fridge is tbh because in reality they are not freshly picked at this time of year.

I think I'd be tempted to wait but it depends how fresh everything is and what you're planning to buy. Onions, potatoes and root vegetables should be fine to last and if the sprouts are on their stem they'll probably last.

I brought our Christmas veg from Aldi this morning. Now hibernating in the shed till the big day. Carrots, parsnips, potato all for 8 pence a big bag..... they also had frozen Yorkshire puddings in at 12 for 49 pence.

I bought 2 swede, 2 packs of carrots, 2 bags of potatoes, 1 turnip and 2 packs of sprouts all for 5p each. I've put them in the conservatory as it's really cool out there and no room for vegetables in my fridge. I will buy broccoli and a cauliflower on 22nd when I go to buy cream, milk, bread rolls and turkey crown. I've already bought streaky bacon x 2, sausages meat x 2, pigs in blankets x 3 and a huge joint of beef for Xmas day and it's taking up quite a lot of room in my fridge.

Not a turnip a pack of parsnips.

caringcarer · 20/12/2025 00:15

I'm making vegetable soup tomorrow.

Root veg can be stored for weeks if you store it correctly. Take carrots, parsnips and potatoes out of plastic wrapping and into a cardboard box, cover with brown paper and store in the shed. Brocolli in the fridge.

Any time from now will be fine.

Where did you get the 5p veg? That’s amazing! I thought 8p was good!

Bought mine yesterday and it’s in the boot of the car.

caringcarer · 20/12/2025 10:28

Aldi and Lidl charging 5 p for Xmas veg.

Brightbluesomething · 20/12/2025 10:51

I bought my root veg on Thursday as I happened to be at the supermarket and it was really quiet so I got a few things in. The rest I’ll buy on Monday as I’m off work.
