Selling on vinted, is it a load of hassle?

My teen DD wants to spend the school holidays selling her outgrown clothes on Vinted. I like her enthusiasm to raise money but I'm wary - feels like a lot of hassle for very little money and the potential to fall victim to scams/drama? Am I wrong?

I’ve never had any scams/drama issues! I’d say not worth the hassle for things you’d sell for £1 (eg Shein Primark etc) but for decent stuff that you can get a few pounds for it’s definitely worth it! Especially because as a new account doing loads of listings you get a boost so you’ll probably find loads sell at once and you can do one big drop off for posting

NorthenAdventure · 17/12/2025 20:58

Good for her. I've made 100s on Vinted. Yes it's a bit of effort but I'd encourage that - good for teens to work for money! If it wasn't worth it nobody would do it. Nice bit of pocket money at least.

OrigamiOwls · 17/12/2025 21:01

I've done it and don't find it much hassle. Just need to make sure the items you list are worth reselling (not Primark etc) as those will probably be a struggle to shift

SilenceInside · 17/12/2025 21:06

I’ve not had any scams or issues. Just make sure she understands Vinted’s processes and how to stay safe. Basically don’t go outside of Vinted’s internal systems, and provide clear photos and full details of each item to minimise any comeback from buyers.

TimeToStopLurking · 17/12/2025 21:13

I've found it nothing but a pain both buying and selling. Two items I bought never arrived. One arrived with holes in. Beware you have tiny windows in which to raise an issue. Eg. Wait something like 30 days and then you have a 48 hour window.

When selling I only uploaded brand new items with tags (for peanuts). Still people haggle. It's exhausting.

Also would never use the post without a label lockers. Courier mixed up my parcel. It's exhausting. I'm now liable both for postage, return postage (because item isn't as described!) and loss of the item. I don't want to pay for something I didn't send to come back to me.

Maybe I've been incredibly unlucky but I've found it awful. And postage takes forever

SilenceInside · 17/12/2025 21:22

I think that’s very unlucky. But I agree about not using the lockers without a label. If I have put the label on the parcel myself I know it’s correct, whereas if you leave it to the courier company you are at the mercy of the delivery person.

You don't have to haggle with buyers. You can just ignore offers, or decline them and then don’t engage further. You do have a fairly short window after receiving an item that you’ve bought to either accept it as ok, or to choose the “I have an issue” option. But given that you have the item and can check it straight away, I don’t think that’s unreasonable.

Great thing for a teen with time on their hands (as long as she's aware of common tactics and scams). Hassle for a working parent without time. Get her selling your stuff too.

SabbatWheel · 17/12/2025 21:30

I don’t use the lockers only the drop off points where they print and attach a digital label. Find your nearest / most convenient drop-off point and on Vinted only offer the couriers the drop off place will take is my advice. For me that’s our local Post Office who take Evri, DPD and Royal Mail.

I’ve made £105 in about 6 weeks with very little effort.

Screamingabdabz · 17/12/2025 21:32

I don’t think you ever really make big money on vinted unless you’re some kind of magician but I’ve found it relatively hassle free as long as you’re realistic and have a good supply of postal bags.

Scrabbler · 17/12/2025 21:36

It’s a great idea if she’s got some decent stuff to sell. I found that branded stuff like Nike and Montirex sold well as did higher end high street stuff like mint Velvet and urban outfitters.

My DC listed our old clothes and football boots one weekend- he’s made £300 so far.

no hassle and no issues apart from 1 buyer selecting Royal Mail 48 hr tracked delivery and it took a month to arrive. It was not my fault though- buyer could see I’d dropped the parcel off.

Growlybear83 · 17/12/2025 21:39

I’ve been selling on Vinted for a couple of years and it’s very quick and easy to list items. I think it’s really important to make sure clothes are ironed when you take photos, and that you spend a couple of minutes editing and cropping photos to make them look more professional. Once the pictures are ready, it takes me much less than five minutes to list each item. I never use lockers because of the potential for the couriers to mix up parcels, and print out my own labels at home. I buy bulk maiming bags and tissue paper every couple of months when I’ve got a lot of stuff for sale, and it only takes a couple of minutes to wrap an item nicely. I hate it when something I’ve bought arrives screwed up in an old bag; I always send things in the condition that I would like to receive them myself, and I take the same care with an item that I’ve sold for £5 as £50.

Growlybear83 · 17/12/2025 21:41

Just to add thst I’ve never been scammed so far on Vinted. I’m aware that scammers do use the site but I take care with items I buy and have only ever bought one item that cost me over £50.

ItsStillWork · 17/12/2025 22:01

I’ve sold £10,500 worth of stuff in 3 years.

i price stuff to sell quickly, so a lot of stuff I probably could get more for if I was willing to have it on there awhile

OliviaBonas · 17/12/2025 22:05

It’s very easy. Encourage her to go for it!

Willowskyblue · 17/12/2025 22:14

I’ve had no trouble buying and selling so she should go for it! Tell her to take good clear photos, including the size label, especially now that Vinted have messed up the sizing categories, a good description and measurements, if possible . Also make sure the item is washed, no stains etc. and if it’s even lightly ironed it will photograph so much better. Price things realistically and they’ll sell well.
I always video me packaging higher prices items so there can be no accusations of wrong item being sent, which I’ve heard about before, where buyer returns some random cheap item while keeping the good one.

Setyoufree · 18/12/2025 12:43

Thank you all! I'll pass all your tips onto her. Sounds like if she can be bothered, she should go for it. I was very wary following drama on places like Facebook marketplace, old school eBay back in the day but sounds like as long as she follows the advice on this thread and vinted's rules and guidance she should be ok.

And yes agree, if she figures this out she can do my stuff too 😁
