Supermarket delivery with prices like Aldi/Lidl - recommendations please!

For years my go-to has been either Aldi or Lidl, but due to an injury I need to use a delivery service for the foreseeable.

Sainsbury’s prices - OMG - not quite double but seems a lot more £. I’ve used them a few times but it’s ridiculous and unsustainable.

Where would you recommend please. One that delivers but is closer to Aldi or Lidl on prices.

Iceland??
I personally use Tesco as they price match certain items to Aldi

Roleonspring · 17/12/2025 15:52

I used to use aldi/lidl but due to disability (and loss of wages) had to do online. I use Tesco they do price match aldi on somethings and usually send reasonable subs. I have an off peak saver which is £3.99 a month (if you sign up for 12 months). I did try Asda, morrisons, Sainsbury's but thwy were either more expensive or had big issues with what arrived (or didn't arrive).

Sainsbury do Aldi Price Match and you can filter so that only these items are shown.

So … Tesco price matches Aldi; and Ocado price matches Tesco? Does that mean an Ocado delivery is price matched to Aldi? (Ocado regularly gives me back a voucher for 40p or 67p or whatever, when they’ve been more expensive than Tesco.)

Google AI suggests you try Asda, Iceland, or Morrisons if the Tesco price matching doesn’t work for you, @JudiRuliani.

Mossstitch · 17/12/2025 16:37

I'd go with ocado, they do a 50p midweek delivery option now if in during the right hours, one due any minute and as poster above said they price match to tesco. (Plus you can get m & s treats😋 or their essentials range which is often cheaper than other supermarkets).

LemaxObsessive · 17/12/2025 16:37

I swear by Ocado! Hear me out… It’s not just M&S stuff they sell, they have some brilliant offers like 5 frozen food items for £10 when each item can be £5 alone. Plus many M&S bits are quite cheap anyway. Their baked beans are 32p.
Plus for your first order you get like 25% off I think?

LemaxObsessive · 17/12/2025 16:38

Sorry 45p

Somersetbaker · 17/12/2025 16:58

The only way you'll find out is by pricing the same basket at all the on-line shops, for my test basket Tesco is closest to Aldi. Aldi used to be considerably cheaper, but "price-match" has lowered the difference, now major savings are only on a few items. Iceland is surprisingly expensive and doesn't stock the full range of things I buy. interestingly Asda, before Walmart sold it, was within pence of Tesco, but is now much closer to Sainsbury.

Thank you all so much. This has been really useful because I had no idea about Ocado, I assumed they were just Waitrose (??). I miss my local Lidl and the LidlMiddle aisle and am despondent about Sainsbury’s. Some of the things have been real short use by dates and I always rummage to the back for the longest.

I don’t actually think I’m a very good shopper TBH and need to meal plan around the best prices and make the most of my freezer. Fortunately I can and do cook from scratch which must help.

Sorry - I’m rambling on!! Thanks again for all the advice 😁

Oh - you’ve missed Waitrose@Ocado by a few years!

(The split caused a good deal of weeping and wailing - not just in my house. Thankfully I moved back to Waitrose country, but, while it’s probably the only supermarket I find quite fun to wander around, I rarely order from them. After more than 15 years with Ocado they do feel like my default supermarket, even though I do half ny shopping elsewhere.)

I think you can use Ocado economically - if you take advantage of all the savings and flash sales on the site. Maybe ask Chat GPT to compare and contrast for you? (Not for every shop - just until you get into the way of things.)

If you enjoy cooking - are you aware of

Hodmedod’s Wholefoods?

You can save quite a bit by buying larger quantities. And it’s so satisfying to have a full larder.

VanCleefArpels · 17/12/2025 18:00

I find Morrisons delivery very reasonable. If you have a Clubcard Tesco can be good too - I saved £15 off a big shop recently with clubcard prices

NetflixandKill1 · 17/12/2025 18:10

I’ve been gate keeping Sainsbury’s and the tips to get good food for less, but I’ll share (as it’s Christmas) So I have shopped about, every store I can think of. Tried every brand including the shops own branded items. Now, IMO Sainsbury’s have a standard to uphold and their quality is absolutely top tier. The prices for their own branded products and the quality you get, is unmatched. I won’t go anywhere else. I reserve a space to collect my shopping for 50p. All the prices are the same as if I’d gone into store myself. Honestly, you have to give it a go. Their own branded beans, cat food, bread, soup, fizzy drinks are amazing. (To the point the kids moan if I get anything other than!)

Also… you can reserve your food shop for collection for a 50 pence fee, and you don’t pay until the day you have arranged to pick it up. I’ve done a full shop for Christmas which I’m due to collect on the day after I get paid, and it won’t be taken from my account until that day.

Happy shopping!

Just to underline the point, @JudiRuliani - my email today from Ocado says my like for like shop delivered yesterday was £1 cheaper than Tesco.
