Id like to get some new children’s books for Christmas- some really good ones. Not just peppa pig and bing as they bore me to tears!

I can almost always read any by Julia Donaldson, Judith Kerr and Jilly Murphy. Love the Allbergs. I know some of these are old schools.

Are there any more modern ones that are fun to read again and again?

I love the Tom Fletcher series 'there's an X in your book'

Ten minutes to bed little dinosaur

There's also a series of books with words to be sung to nursery rhymes - we have Car Car Truck Jeep and Rumble Rumble Dinosaur

triplechoc · 17/12/2025 08:25

Cops and Robbers was a firm favourite for years.

Caryl Hart’s books featuring “Albie” - Supermarket Zoo, How to Grow a Dinosaur, Welcome to Alien School, Jump In to the Pirate Pool.

‘The Pirates Next Door’ and ‘The Pirate Cruncher’ by Johnny Duddle.

BertieBotts · 17/12/2025 08:42

The dog who could dig is amazing. Love some of the rhymes in this and the illustrations. It's not that new but it's less well known and I love it.

Also Don't let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, the biggest bed in the world, the day the crayons quit, I want my hat back.

We love Julia Donaldson too – they’re always great to read aloud.

A newer gentle bedtime one we’ve been enjoying is Milo MoonBear and the Sleepy Star. It’s about a little bear with a lantern who goes on a quiet nighttime adventure and discovers the importance of friendship along the way. It’s quite calming which works really well before bed.
