Help from any cake makers

Hello! I rarely order cakes as I'm not really a cake person but we're having a big party this weekend and a friend (who makes cakes for a living) has offered to make and bring the birthday cake. I said I'd only accept if she would let me pay her the going rate. She's refusing at the moment but I feel really bad as it's the weekend before Christmas and she's busy enough as it is. So I would like to pay her but have no idea what the going rate for a cake is - it's to feed approx. 50-60 people. We're in London if that makes a difference. Thanks for any help!

Cake cost depends on the type of cake e.g sponge is faster to make and I think probably slightly cheaper ingredients . Also the level of decoration will impact how much time it takes to do.

Commercial cakes vary so much in cost - a Costco sheet cake (which to be honest does not taste great) costs

Each cake is 40cm x 30cm in size, serves 48 and sells for £17.99.

Or compare with the 'on the day' cakes from somewhere nicer in manchester

https://slattery.co.uk/cake/simple-design-with-champagne-bottles/ which is

45-50 Servings | 10" Square cake £120.00.

Thank you - I think what I'm getting is more like the £120 cake so maybe that's what I should transfer? Think we're going choc fudge - does that make a difference?!

deleted as I am not a cake maker so am not actually answering the question you asked. Sorry!

Do you know her likes? If she's not wanting to accept payment, maybe a thoughtful gift - something that's she's wanted for herself but not bought? In London, you'd easily be looking at £150-£200.

No worries at all - I didn't see your message so curious now! Any views are appreciated - I shouldn't have specified cakemakers really - anyone who's bought a cake would also have a better idea than me!

That's a lovely idea but I really have no clue - would be easier for me to just transfer cold hard cash 😆

You can click on the edited button to see it - it never really goes away. But still, my expertise on this is zero!
