Are net curtains my best option for kitchen?

Long story that I don't really want to get into but having trouble with neighbour at back of me and need to make my kitchen window inaccessible, visibility, especially by camera 🙄

Its a dark space anyways and I put up the reflective film which works great during the day but at night is useless and its getting dark around 3pm now.

I don't want blinds shut all day.

Im thinking net curtains but theyre a bit, euurgh.

Or is there another option?

Cafe curtains?
Short, hang from a rail about a foot from the windowsill. Reasonably easy to make.

AudiobookListener · 15/12/2025 16:53

With net curtains you'll still need blinds at night.

MarbleDrive · 15/12/2025 16:56

Ew. Net curtains. And in a kitchen, they’d be grease magnets.

Could you have a wipeable roller blind?

I didn’t think anyone had net curtains anymore. Grim. I’m Team Roller blind

Mumof1andacat · 15/12/2025 17:07

Pull down roller blind or Venetian Blinds

frozendaisy · 15/12/2025 17:07

Venetian blinds, horizontal or vertical, you can angle so that viewpoint can’t see in but light still gets in

There is usually a Boxing Day sale if you can last that long

IdaGlossop · 15/12/2025 17:08

Louvred shutters?

we have both of these. My husband’s home office was at the front of the house on the street and we put this half way up and the other one on a garage window. They both have been up for a year now and look amazing. So easy to put up and even with a light on inside and dark outside you can’t see in at all. You can see if someone comes to the window but it is obscured. But nope nothing. If a neighbour is looking into your garden or other private areas it is an offence and you can take action.

night & day blinds? you’d keep plenty of light coming in but still maintain privacy

Nourishinghandcream · 15/12/2025 17:17

Opaque Perfect Fit blinds.
You can pull them down but still allow light through.

Friendlyfart · 15/12/2025 17:19

Venetian blinds - you can angle them so people can’t see in. We have them at the front of the house

bagsofbats · 15/12/2025 17:20

My daughter has opaque patterned film up to give her privacy, we got it from B&Q, there were several patterns to choose from.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 15/12/2025 17:23

Self adhesive frosted / patterned film?

Night time with the lights on they might see blurry shapes, but not like the reflective stuff.

WittyJadeStork · 15/12/2025 17:24

Net curtains should be fine if there’s enough fabric. They’re fairly cheap and easy to fit. Wash easily. I had them in my last two houses. I don’t understand why blinds are so popular but net curtains are not but maybe I have really old fashion tastes.

crazeekat · 15/12/2025 17:29

Nets should be banned

ChristmasStressy · 15/12/2025 18:22

The opaque film is a good idea but I'd prefer to be able to look out of the window so I can see my dogs.

Wouldn't fabric vertical blinds get just as greasy as nets?

If you still need to see out then venetian blinds are what you need.
They come in a wide range of different materials so can be very cheap( so easily replaced if they get greasy) or expensive and sturdy (so can be scrubbed clean) .
Most can be ordered online and are easily fitted.

Yes and Venetian blinds do as well, so clean them often
