New year

I've just found out that I'm going to be alone again for new year. I wasn't expecting it this year and it's been a tough year so the thought of being home alone seems worse than it normally would.

I'm now thinking of going away to a hotel that has a new year event. The problem is that I'll have the dog with me and I can't just leave her in holiday accomodation. It's too late to get dog care for one of the busiest times of year. Does anyone know of any dog friendly new year events? I'm based in North Yorks but happy to travel a few hours and can put a few hundred pounds to it.

Ideas very welcome.

Sorry you're going to be unexpectedly alone at New Year. Personally I'd make it all about me and the dog but stay at home. I would buy myself some lovely food treats, select a film or a good book, and do a nice walk with the dog for New Year's Day - somewhere I didn't usually go. I personally think trying to find an event and a dog sitter at this late stage would be difficult and expensive. I hope whatever you do you enjoy it.

The problem is that I spend a lot of my time doing exactly this and I'm isolated.

New year is just another day, lots of people (including me) don’t celebrate it at all. Don’t spend loads of your money trying to force yourself to have a good time.

Or maybe I just want/need a good time 🤷🏼. It's been a shit year and I could do with some company.

We don’t do much at new year anyway. I’d have a lovely night at home and then get up early when everyone is sleeping off their hangovers and drive somewhere lovely for a dog walk. Are you in reach of a beach?

MissyB1 · 14/12/2025 16:22

The problem with so called “dog friendly” hotels is that they will have areas that the dog won’t be allowed into, often including the restaurant! So it could be tricky for you to feel included in any celebrations.

Yes I can drive to a beach but I do this daily so it just feels like more of the same shit different day.

That's why I'm looking for dog friendly events.

Hi
Clearly I don't know if they have space but Aysgarth Falls hotel has dog friendly rooms and although the main restaurant is dog free, you can eat in the dog friendly bar.
Good luck!

Raera · 14/12/2025 17:15

I'd also suggest looking in the Lake District, everywhere is dog friendly!!

Oh I couldn’t give a bite about NYE. If you are concerned about it I think going solo might make that feeling worse.

mindutopia · 14/12/2025 17:27

What sort of event do you have in mind? Realistically, there aren’t really ‘dog friendly’ NYE events. No one wants a dog in a fancy party (and it’s not like you’re going to go chat to people who are just trying to go on a date with their partner with your dog in tow). And it would be awful for the poor dog to stand outside in crowds for hours for fireworks.

What most people do for NYE is stay at home, dog in bed in front of the fire and watch tv and begrudgingly stay awake till midnight. That’s what we’ll be doing.

Could you look to volunteer at a community event at home? So dog can stay home, you go volunteer for the evening. Go away on 1st Jan for a couple nights to a dog friendly hotel and relax with no expectations for a big night out you have to drag your dog to. Just a nice time away.

I'm not sure if anything could make me feel worse tbh

Do you have a local pub you and doggo could go?

Or a dog friendly event at a hotel. Here's an eg https://www.elfordleigh.co.uk/paws-and-prosecco-new-years-eve-break/

Looks kind of cute! There may be similar in an area near you. The Feathers in Holt, N Norfolk for eg is super dog-friendly and may have an offer.

Guess it's not going to happen then.

There won't be any need for volunteers at that time of year. They are always oversubscribed in the holidays.

Guess I'll just have another alone one and I'll deal with it like I have to deal with everything else.

This is exactly what I'm looking for but it's about a 10 hour round trip and was looking for something a little closer. Guess it's rarer than hens teeth.

AI suggest this....

For dog-friendly New Year's Eve 2025 breaks with entertainment, look at Good Hotel Guide for places like Homewood (Bath) or The Cottage in the Wood (Malvern) offering festive menus & stays; also check specialist sites like Canine Cottages for properties near coast/countryside (Cornwall, Norfolk, Yorkshire) for cozy escapes, and consider UK towns known for being dog-welcoming, such as Bury St Edmunds, for accommodation with pubs and events, but always verify specific entertainment & pet policies directly with hotels as NYE details get confirmed closer to the date.
Hotel Options (Check for 2025/2026 Packages):
Homewood (Bath, Somerset): Quirky, dog-friendly hotel with special NYE offers in the past, combining unique decor with traditional stays.
The Cottage in the Wood (Malvern Wells): Known for luxury, tasting menus, and festive celebrations, welcoming dogs.
The Black Swan (Cumbria): A family-run, dog-friendly pub with rooms, offering comfort and good food in a scenic location.
Cottage & Holiday Let Sites:
Canine Cottages: Lists various locations like Cornwall, Norfolk, and Yorkshire, offering self-catering dog-friendly options for a quieter New Year by the sea or countryside.

If you can’t find an event could you find a nice holiday cottage by the beach, near some nice pubs, or with a hot tub? Then even if you’re chilling with the dog it makes it feel a bit special.
