Hello there!

My 20 year old son needs a haircut…but every time he goes to the barber, they cut it into the same shortish style using clippers. He spends the next 6 months growing it out and tries again elsewhere.

He wants this particular look - see pics. He’s shown the barber the pictures. He’s asked them to keep the length. What is he doing wrong? He’s asked for a scissor cut and been refused as apparently you need to tell them this before the appointment? He’s gotten to the point he’s asked me to try and do it! (Not even going to try).

Advice would be appreciated! Is this really specialist? What does he ask for? He likes the same length all around, doesn’t want a mullet.

Do you mean instead of a barber?

It is possible that a hairdresser would have more skill working with different lengths and layers of hair, different textures etc, as opposed to a barber. I've known many barbers and I've known many hairdressers in my years, barbers tend to specialize in just keep it short keep it neat and come back in 3 weeks... Hairdressers can be a little more skilled in the various techniques styles and fashions. It does not look like a difficult haircut so long as he has enough length when he goes, but he needs to be clear with them and they need to clearly ask the questions, I cannot understand why a haircut with those two examples they would try to trim with clippers.

Agree with @Motnight. Most hairdressers do men’s hair too.

They weren’t interested in the pictures. Said they couldn’t fit a scissor cut in. My son say tidy it up then and out came the clippers.

I will take him to the hairdressers. That’s a good shout. Thanks
