How much are your food shops as a single parent?

Basically what the title says.

i am a single mother of 2 dcs - 8/4. I am interested in how much other single parents weekly shops are and where you shop? As this is all new to me and I am trying to understand if I am spending within reason! For example - yesterday I did a food shop in Lidl for £78 which I thought was reasonable. My usual supermarkets are Sainsbury’s and M&S usually but really trying to save money so I thought I’d give Lidl a go..

My eldest DC is so fussy, so as much as I’d love to cook one meal a night for us all.. it does not tend to go this way (would probably work out cheaper)

insights please! Thank you

I’ve recently gone through my spending so can answer this! Single parent with 1DC who is 7. When I was primarily shopping at Aldi I was spending £85 a week. I’ve since moved to online shopping, mostly Morrisons with the occasional Waitrose and have got it down to around £60/£65 a week. Seems I am too impulsive instore but much more restrained online.

I also do online which helps keep in budget.
I have me and two older teens (so basically feeding 3 adults). One dc has afrid so I understand you having to make two meals. I spend £70 every 10 days (slightly more during holidays).

It could be worth your while looking at the Facebook pages of how to feed your family for £"0 quid a week. I often look at Lorna's info and I am saving a fair bit. I also got one of her books in a charity shop. She has some great ideas.

1 adult and 1 child I aim for £60 a week although could probably do it for less, I find online shopping easiest. Fill the basket with what I want to buy and modify it to what we need then a few extras if the budget allows

About £100 pw.

One adult, one child. We eat a lot of fish, fruit and veg. I’m gluten free which bumps up the cost. Usually do 2-3 packed lunches for DS a week. Dont buy a lot of wine.

2 adults here and spend around £50.

as far as eating the same meal, i would work towards this for 6/7 meals per week then on the final day everyone gets to choose perhaps or even each person chooses the menu twice a week so the fussy ones get favourites some days but they will learn to eat more, I used plain bribery combined with making dishes more appealing eg wraps went down well but you can put many things in wraps!

I'm a single mum to ds17. He has hollow legs and eats constantly.

I shop at Tesco, and spend about £55 a week, including basic cleaning stuff & toiletries. That includes meat/fish/dairy and a good mix of fruit & veg. I cook from scratch and make my own bread. No alcohol.

But it's getting harder to keep to £55. 🙁

I’m a single parent to one older teen dd, I can’t seem to get the weekly food bill under £90 a week these days. When dd was younger I aimed for £50 a week.

I mostly shop at Aldi.

Thanks for everyone’s responses! They were all very helpful. Seems I am within range with my budget which is reassuring.

i usually online shop, but I thought I’d give Lidl a go as it is supposed to be cheaper.. I guess time will tell!

thanks again :) xx
