Also, no slow cooker… oven only! Ta!

i just put the ham in a big pot with the coke, peppercorns, onion, bay leaves and shove in the oven for a few hours (depending on the weight of the joint).

Fish out of the pot, put on backing tray then glaze with black treacle and pop back in the oven for 5 mins to finish off the glaze.

I always soak the gammon in water for 24 hours to make it less salty. This week we used the leftovers to make a chicken, leek & gammon pie

I didn't last time I made it, was fine.

I always soak overnight, boil in apple juice and water for 30 mins then glaze and put in oven for an hour. My gammon is always complimented.

Boil in a large pan of water for five minutes. Turn over, boil for another five minutes. You’re not cooking it, just sealing it, drain and pat dry. Transfer to a casserole dish. Pour coke* over, and put in oven on a low setting. Every hour, turn and baste with coke juices. If the coke has evaporated, add another can. When it’s nearly cooked, remove lid, drain off the excess liquid, and cook for ten minutes to crisp and caramelise.

*Cider is a great alternative.

@BorgQueen do you soak it in coke overnight?

@Middlemarch123 wonder if I can shallow fry to seal instead of boiling?

Yes @Ruggyleaf , think that would be fine.

@Middlemarch123 thank you!

Oh no don’t skip the boiling/soaking stage. I needed up with a horribly salty ham when I skipped it once.
