Wrapping charged presents

Kids have a yoto for Christmas as their main joint gift.

If I charge it, turn it off and wrap it today will the battery last till Christmas? I would rather they can just open it and use it immediately!

I have just spent the last 30 mins downloading the cards onto it, I'm so excited for them I think they will love it!

Why not just save wrapping these two gifts until much closer to the time?

HairsprayBabe · 11/12/2025 14:20

@Agiantspidey I'm just in the wrapping zone today and I would love to be done and finished by the end of the week, if I can't wrap it this far in advance its not a huge deal but it would be great if I could be finished and then put away all the wrapping "stuff" and be done with it sooner rather than later:)

Wrap everything else besides just 2 small gifts!

If you turn it off the battey will last.

BadgernTheGarden · 11/12/2025 14:27

The battery should be fine if it's not turned on, just make sure it can't be accidentally turned on through the wrapping, tape the switch in the off position?

HairsprayBabe · 11/12/2025 14:29

@Agiantspidey yes I know I could do that (and it is only one gift) but I would rather be totally done if possible. We don't have a huge amount of space for keeping Christmas magic hidden and if the wrapping things can go back in the loft it would clear a bit of space in my bedroom.

If I can't it isn't the end of the world, but if I can - as @Lookingforwardto2025 has confirmed then fabulous. Thank you :)

It should be fine, then just influence their opening so they get those ones opened near the beginning, check the battery and if it’s low stick it on charge while they open everything else. Those kind of things usually charge up in under an hour,

HairsprayBabe · 11/12/2025 14:38

@InfoSecInTheCity that's a great shout thank you, we are quite low tech for the kids so this is the first year it has come up.

I don't think I fully appreciated the logistics of Christmas till this year!

It is hard to accidentally turn on a yoto as you have to hold the button for several seconds so it should be fine. Just make sure another present isn't leaning on it or something.

Pistachiocake · 11/12/2025 15:14

You could put it in a gift bag/box so you don't need to getthe stuff out again.

123456abcdef · 11/12/2025 15:42

It should last fine. It’s very difficult to accidentally turn it on. Plus you can use it plugged in if needed.

4crackers · 11/12/2025 17:39

Do they share a room? How old are they? This seems like it has the potential to be quite a fraught gift if sharing!

HairsprayBabe · 12/12/2025 10:10

@4crackers they are 5 and nearly 4 (18mo apart) they share a room and they don't really squabble, have always played nicely and shared. All the cards we have picked up are of interest to both of them. They are generally downstairs children anyway - as in they play in the living room not upstairs. And we aren't going to allow the yoto after lights out anyway.
