MNers have been talking about how chocolate has been ruined for years, looks like it’s official

I used to bloody love a Toffee Crisp the chocolate was so thick, I loved the yoghurts as well

Toffee Crisp and Blue Riband can't be called chocolate anymore

Nestle has used more vegetable oil in it recipes, meaning the treats no longer qualify as chocolate under UK law

Ugh, more "chocolate flavour" treats.

TheDandyLion · 10/12/2025 17:56

Same as Penguins and Club bars.

If you like a lot of chocolate on your biscuit don't join their club.

DarkForces · 10/12/2025 17:57

Now I want a toffee crisp. Leading me astray @EineReiseDurchDieZeit 😡😂

So true. Chocolate just isn't the same since Cadbury's sold out 😭

alpenguin · 10/12/2025 18:03

I had a blue ribband last week and tbf it shouldn’t be allowed to be called edible. It’s how I imagine eating ashes feels and they probably taste better too.

tobee · 10/12/2025 18:03

Sensory tested my big fat arse

HansHolbein · 10/12/2025 18:04

What chocolate is actual chocolate then?

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 10/12/2025 18:05

@alpenguin they were my least favourite as a child, if they were cardboardy then god knows how horrible I would find one now

What chocolate is actual chocolate then?

If it has enough cocoa solids and milk solids in

Just make your way to northern France @DarkForces where you can buy a 'superzeep' from the Chat Bleu which is to die for.

Comefromaway · 10/12/2025 20:06

I loved Toffee Crisp.

Aldi own brand version taste like Nestle sec to.

Somersetbaker · 10/12/2025 20:20

Sorry but they were 20% cocoa solids, now less. That's not chocolate, they tasted shite and no matter how much Nestle say they were"carefully developed and sensory tested" they are still shite.

Brendahollowayjustlookwhatyouhavedone · 10/12/2025 20:24

70s club biscuits were a two for one for us 70s kids.
Nibble all the thick chocolate off first
Then left to munch the uncovered biscuit.

Kpo58 · 10/12/2025 20:27

Toffee Crisps are already only half the width that they used to be and now this?! 😭

mrsfollowill · 10/12/2025 20:40

Blue Riband were terrible in the 70's and 80's I had no idea they still made them. My Nan used to have her biscuit tin full of them along with Breakaways sometimes a Trio and wondered why we were not delighted to have one! Now a Penguin or a Club were luxury. Our other Nan had the better biscuits and did home made cake all the time so loved going there and pigging out. We didn't have biscuits of any kind at home unless it was Christmas or we had 'company' round- we always got told fruit or yoghurt for something 'sweet' Toffee Crisps used to be a top tier chocolate bar back then too- they all were. Sometimes for a treat I used to get 1/2 a Mars or Marathon - never a whole one as it was so big it was too much for 1 Grin If we had friends round (other kids) it would be cut into slices so 4 kids 4 slices .

Brendahollowayjustlookwhatyouhavedone · 10/12/2025 20:44

@mrsfollowill and you darent take a biscuit before the adults and still ask ..may i have a biscuit please especially with company visiting.

I now have a new life goal

mrsfollowill · 10/12/2025 20:52

@Brendahollowayjustlookwhatyouhavedone I know!! biscuits on a plate with a doily we got one the extra couple were for company only- we would jump on them as the visitors left that's if my mum hadn't persuaded them to have a 2nd. Very different times now. As the 'chocolate' is very different too- gave up on Roses and Quality street years ago. Get posh boxes of mostly Belgian these days for Xmas indulgence.

Trampoline · 10/12/2025 20:56

The bigger question in all of this is..do you say Blue Rib-AND or Blue Rib-UND? This has caused endless arguments in my family over the years. The song was something about '..those Blue Riband blues'...

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 10/12/2025 21:16

RibUND I think @Trampoline

StarsTwinklingPomanders · 10/12/2025 22:17

@DarkForces what a shame that chock you linked looks wonderful but the cherry bar at least has palm oil in it.

RaininSummer · 10/12/2025 22:25

Very sad that most British so-called chocolate is now just a nasty mix of vegetable fat and sugar with scant cocoa solids. Revolting stuff.

beadystar · 10/12/2025 22:41

Agree. I want a chocolate bar from my 90s childhood, not sugary grease. Very sad.
