If you have very tall passengers, what car do you drive?

Thinking about changing my car in the new year and one of my criteria is that it'll need good back seat leg room. Dh is 6ft5 and the dc (13 & 15, and around 5ft7/5ft9) are on track to be fairly tall too. They already pretty squashed in the back of any car if dh is in it too as he needs his seat pushed fully back. I've had my current car 10 years, will have the next as long so I want to get the most comfort I can for them. So if you have a tall family, what do you drive?

Dh is 6ft 3, ds1 6ft1 ds 2 6ft 2. So not as tall as your dh

We have a polo. Don't get one of these its too small. Im following to see the suggestions.

Audi Q3. Big but not too big.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 09/12/2025 21:37

I am 5'10, dh is 6'1, and our sons are 6'8 and 6' 2".
We went for a kia sportage for just this reason. It offers plenty of legroom for us all and if you put the seats down you can get a sofa in the back!

vdbfamily · 09/12/2025 21:37

We are 6'1" and 6'7" with 3 x DC 6'7",6'3",5'11"
We had 2 x Renault Grand Scenic in a row whilst kids growing up. Second model did not have gap between front 2 seats which meant middle child was not that comfortable. On one long journey, our tallest child sat in pop up seat in third row and we removed the seat in front of him so legroom was amazing. We now have a Nissan Pulsar which has good legroom.

HollywentLightly · 09/12/2025 22:08

Sounds like I'll be OK to switch a couch for a large dog so, @Bigearringsbigsmile ! Q3 is more than I'd ideally spend and the Sportages I've seen have fairly high mileage, but sounds like both are worth more investigation. I love the Toyota yaris cross (my mum has one) but I don't see long legged longevity in it, and I was really hoping to avoid a behemoth. I'm going to see if a local garage has a Corolla Cross in stock to check the back seats. I don't know anything about the pulsar so I'll look into it too.
@Fearfulsaints, dh says the most headroom he ever had was in a VW Beetle about 20 years ago, when the new style came out!

Skoda Enyaq.

No problem getting tall people in the front and back with plenty of leg room. Dh is 6 foot 3 and built.

HollywentLightly · 09/12/2025 22:25

We had a Skoda spontaneously combust before, so not our preferred option any more!

We have a BYD Seal U and my 6 foot 2 dad has plenty of room in the back.

MichelleCancelled · 09/12/2025 22:31

We have a C3 Picasso and a Nissan Leaf. All passed the I can sit in the back when my husband has the seat all the way back test. Leaf is roomy and very comfy.

QueenOfWeeds · 09/12/2025 22:37

Our ford mondeo has ruined us for legroom when going in other cars. Excellent boot, too.

HollywentLightly · 09/12/2025 22:39

That's very good news about the Leaf, I'm finding it hard to get my head round the idea of the very big SUV types. Have to do electric car research though to understand battery longevity, etc. It should be straightforward to get a charger to the house.

Dh has a Mondeo and loves it @QueenOfWeeds . I really don't like driving it round town though.

Suzuki Vitara - for this very reason. We had to take DS car shopping with us to try him for size as he literally had to bend his head in some models.

I've got a jaguar XF and the leg room in the back is great, it comfortably seats adult kids who are 6'2, 6'1 and 5'8 although they fight over who has to have the middle seat. My BIL is 6'6 and likes the passenger seat

ChocoChocoLatte · 09/12/2025 23:26

My exceptionally tall brother likes our Volvo XC40

MrsPositivity1 · 09/12/2025 23:27

Hyundai Ioniq 5
jaguar F Pace

Myoldbones · 10/12/2025 00:47

Mazda CX5. 6ft3 and 6ft6 both really pleased with it.

Thank you, the ioniq 5 might be exactly what I want, and I've found one very locally to see at the weekend. And I'm putting the Jag on my Euromillions shopping list.

We got ours in February and the mileage per full charge is great. Loved my jag but the engines go at around 60k miles

edit to add son is 6ft 5

I have tall male relatives who find this happens. Ordinary length legs but long bodies so they can't sit up straight in some cars.

Highlandgal · 10/12/2025 16:43

Husband is 6’2 and drives a BMW X5. My son is 6’3 and drives a Jaguar FPace. I have a Porsche Macan which also has lots of room.

Really, before he got his FPace my son had a Jaquar XE and had done over 80,000 miles and engine was still sound.

Tbh I only have experience of the F-Pace which I loved and I know other people had the same problem. Ours was diesel, I’m not sure if that makes any difference?

NeverEnoughCake2 · 10/12/2025 17:59

Skoda Superb for us. DH is 6ft4, I'm 5ft9 and DS is now 6ft2 and still growing. Loads of boot space too

We've had it nine years without any spontaneous combustion incidents, but I can see why your previous experience might put you off!
