Desperate for advice 15 week old all of a sudden sicking up 😭

posted on infant feeding but I didn’t get any replies.

My little girl has been fine feeding up until 2 weeks ago. Now with every burp she throws up volumes of milk. Then for hours later even sat up right she’ll sick up what seems to be most of her milk. She is going through so many bibs and clothes.

she had a tongue tie, we got it fixed and from what I can see it’s fine.

she is exclusively formula fed and has between 150-180ml per feed which has always been fine up until a fortnight ago.
we haven’t changed formula or routine.
shes a happily little girl apart from this.
we’re at a loss as to know what to do. Any ideas?

I’m going to get her weighed tomorrow to see if she’s lost weight.

thank you

It could be an allergy to something in the milk - Id make a GP appointment and get her seen. If she’s not crying with hunger afterwards then she may well be getting enough, but it’s best to talk it through with someone who knows what to look for.

Seeingadistance · 09/12/2025 21:31

I’d take her to the GP to get her checked out.

Redcst · 09/12/2025 21:48

I phoned the GP today and they said they’ll call me in a few days. They really don’t care and I feel unsupported. They won’t see her in person either.

She's 15 weeks and they won't see her in person or give you an app for a few days? That's disgraceful!

It could be something like reflux, it could also a milk allergy, given that she's been okay until recently it's most likely reflux but how are her nappies? How many wet ones in a day x

Thank you. They didn’t even ask if she was having wet/dirty nappies. Zero regard.
im going to phone the doctor this morning.

She’s still having wet nappies and usually does a poo everyday but nothing yesterday.

Try your health visitor. They are much more clued up on infant feeding than your average GP.

On the what she's throwing up though it probably isn't as bad as you think. It looks a LOT on the floor but milk does so a long way. Try pouring the same volume of water onto your kitchen (hard surface?) floor and see how far it travels... It will go further than you anticipate. (Says a mum to a massive refluxer who remembers that fear - she's now 16!)

Some other things to try:

  • Half the bottle volume, give her one bottle, 30mins break then a second. This will ensure it reaches her stomach.so has a better chance of staying.
  • Use a V pillow or other small prop to prop her up straight after feeding on a play mat or something.
  • raise the top of her cot slightly. 2-3 books under the head end legs or a pillow UNDER the mattress will be sufficient

Go to the pharmacy and get infant gaviscon - that will be your GPs first call anyway. It likely won't help but it's a hurdle to jump to get anything else from GP.

Get a big pile of simple clothes. My dd lived in onsies at this stage - easy washing. And have plenty of towels around and simple clothes changes for you/dad. Just to take the pressure off.

The thing to remember though is that provided she is taking milk and producing regular wet nappies she is ok. Health visitor can check her weight to ensure she's still gaining. I know that's hard when they are throwing up as it looks awful.

And keep talking... There are plenty of folks here with experience who will keep you going!

Thank you so so much for your advice and tips! I will definitely follow your suggestions.
I’ll also call my health visitor as the doctors have been awful.

I was polite but pushy and said you need to see my daughter and they said no. I have been made to feel like I’m wasting their time.
I think my daughter has some eczema (I get it) so they need to see her in person.
After really pushing it I have an appointment in person this afternoon.
I hate that you have to be so pushy! What if I wasn’t in the right headspace to advocate or my first language wasn’t English you’re set up to feel like you’re wasting their time x

@LittleOwl153 has some really good advice .

If she's having wet nappies that's a really good sign so try not to stress too much. Upright feeding is a good shout.

Regarding the eczema, it could be caused by the milk IF she has an allergy (dd8months and dd11 both have cmpa and soy allergy), it could also be environmental but keep your mind open to all instances.

Dd was recently head to foot in horrendous eczema. Do an oilatum bath once a day, soak for 10 mins then smother in emollient cream within 3 minutes, top with a balm or Vaseline before pj's. I creamed her 5 or 6 times a day until it settled down and it's gone now. You might need to try more than one cream, we settled on moogoo msm cream and Aveeno dermotrex (I think that's the name) set with the balm. If you can see the gp try to get some oilatum and emollient on prescription if they still do that.

Ecowash zero is also very good.

That’s awful! My GP surgery were always clear that they’d take a look at a small baby at any time, because it’s so hard for parents to know what’s normal and what’s not.

If you have a good health visitor then that would be a good option.
