What's the advantage of sleeping in the bath?

You sometimes see people commenting that if xyz happened he could sleep in the bath or he snored so badly I slept in the bath.

Why is that more comfortable than sleeping on the floor? Or is it just a figure of speech?

As in get up in the middle of the night and sleep in the bath? Nooooo it would be cold. Fell asleep in a nice warm bubbly bath a few times can't imagine half asleep climbing into the bath. Surely the sofa would be a better option.

Justchillinhere · 09/12/2025 20:43

Ive never heard anyone say this, no benefits that I can think of, cold and grim

Luxio · 09/12/2025 20:44

I've genuinely never seen anyone suggest sleeping in a bath? Surely the sofa or a chair of even a rug on the floor would be a better option than a bath?

Branster · 09/12/2025 20:45

Never heard this either.
Just think of the giant spiders!

Mt563 · 09/12/2025 20:46

If you're sending the snorer away to the bath, I guess because it's uncomfy and you want them to suffer?! I'd you're taking yourself to sleep in the bath, I can only guess you have nowhere else to go (studio apartment?!)

GettingFestiveNow · 09/12/2025 20:47

Many years ago I knew (not v well, luckily) a chap who would sleep in the bath after a night out so that if he wet himself it was easier to clean up.

Glamba · 09/12/2025 20:47

If drunk, easier to clean up if they vomit! Otherwise cold and horrible.

Upthenorth · 09/12/2025 20:48

I slept in a bath once in a sleeping bag. It was surprisingly comfy, if not a little inconveniently located.

Littletreefrog · 09/12/2025 20:49

I've heard of making drunk people sleep in the bathroom (not the bath) so they are closer to the toilet and it's easier to clean up.

But if I was moving because of someone snoring (not that I would I would make them move instead) it certainly wouldn't be to the bath. Its too short for one thing.

canuckup · 09/12/2025 20:50

Propped up?

Can I genuinely ask why? Surely there was a floor you could have slept on in the sleeping bag? Why a bath?

didntlikeanyofthesuggestions · 09/12/2025 20:50

I think they mean the spa city of Bath. With it's natural springs, historic buildings and access to countryside, going to sleep there is much better than being next to a noisy snorer.

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 09/12/2025 20:51

Lack of Empty floor space? And fear of being trodden on. Safer in the bath. Wrapped in nice cosy duvet, built in back rest.

Ermengarde · 09/12/2025 20:51

I’ve come across this a few times (can’t remember where - tv, books?) and have wondered exactly the same as OP

BadgernTheGarden · 09/12/2025 20:51

It's suggesting something really bad is better than what you are doing, ie, anything better than sleeping with the snorer, not that you would actually do it.

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 09/12/2025 20:52

I’ve put a DC to sleep in the bath, too. Waited for their sib and them to fall asleep then transferred them to their bed.

Janejanejaneagain · 09/12/2025 20:52

I did this once when I was sharing a hotel room with possibly the loudest snorer God has created

Teenage and at a party/sleepover. There wasn’t much space but I do think it was comfier than the floor. Without the sleeping bag it would have been pretty cold!

PInkyStarfish · 09/12/2025 20:54

It must have been a thing at one time as I recall watching old films as a child and a naughty husband or a guest hiding out in a friends home would sleep in the bath!

I wouldn’t under any circumstances as there must be a couch or armchair to sleep on.

This makes total sense. I think a bath would be cleaner than the bathroom floor, and probably more person-shaped.

Yeah, this ^

Our bath is uncomfortable enough just taking a bath in it The sloping end is too upright. I'd sooner sleep on the patio.

notsuperbug · 09/12/2025 21:11

I’ve always wondered this - I first heard it mentioned in the Beetles song - Norweigian Wood

yes, I’ve done this too! Went away with a friend stayed in B + B with en-suite bathroom. By 3am, I had had enough of the million decibel snorer, took my bedding into the bath tub and got a couple of hours Kip, it wasn’t the most comfortable night, but it was more tolerable than the alternative!

DallasMajor · 09/12/2025 21:16

I've slept in lots of baths 😂

Staying in hotel rooms, a bathroom is the only other room - I wouldn't sleep on the bathroom floor.

Baths prop you up so more comfortable than the floor in the room- duvet underneath, pillow, all good.

(This was all when I was young and poor!)

Raggededges · 09/12/2025 21:22

I've slept in a bath. Lived in a studio and a property developer ended up renovating a property right next to my flat (in a lovely quiet village). I worked nights at the time and the bathroom was to the back. It was honestly hell and I ended up moving.
I've never heard of anyone being sent to sleep in a bath though, that would usually be the sofa surely?
