The G out of my name is 18 soon.

A nice young lad - emotionally intelligent, but likes rap and football. A bit of everything - a nice young lad.

Learnt to drive and we got him a decent cheap car.

So, any birthday ideas?

I bought the L an Apple Watch when it was their turn....a surprise. Absolutely no interest at all! Took it back.

So...what should I buy/offer him?

Any thoughts/ideas/experience/suggestions v much appreciated.

Budget? Dunno...nothing daft, but just would like to give him something to mark the landmark.

I thought the same. Sounds like someone you hardly know.

Well if L is anything to go by...some cash to be spent how he likes.

Can't go wrong with that.

For my DD and DS's 21st we took them on separate special trips. I took my DD to NY for a few days. DH took DS to climb a mountain! Could do similar for 18th.

if he likes rap music how about concert tickets?, just got my 17 year old son tickets to see Santan Dave who is touring next year.

Hospitality tickets to his favourite team, the ones were they do drinks/dinner, sometimes an old player will do a speech.

Personalised Reg - if you’re not too picky, you can get some for £250.

Fri - Mon break at Center Parcs, let him bring a a few friends.

Take him to buy a watch, give him a price point & let him decide.

Thanks as always for these, Mn-ers.

He's the boy who's got everything!

Tyler the Creator tix for next year, took him to the football last week - got more footie tickets for him but he's preferring for his siblings to take him out on a pub crawl in London...

Mountain climbing is good - have taken him and his friends previously, might do again.

Karting....he doesn't want.

Escape Room? Nah, thanks.

He seems low key about it - they all have been...Ive suggested a joint 18/21st for a combination of them but no-go...I would have enjoyed!

I think what he really wants is his siblings to be back home so he's not over-parented...he used to go under the radar when he was the little baby.

They're all back for Christmas...he lights up then...as will we all.

I bought my wonderful foster son a Tag Huer watch because I know he liked my DH watch. I thought it is something nice he will always have and I wanted him to know how important he was to us.

Funny you should say that - I did a bit of self-gifting 30 years ago and bought myself a Tag as a reward for getting my first proper work contract.

Felt soooo self conscious when I wore it at first.

Lost it for about 3 or 4 years after a house move - but no sentimental value, so I wasn't really bothered!

Found it in a pair of rolled up socks randomly one day.

My mum and dad bought be a little gold watch for my 18th actually. I wear that more than the Tag now...a nice little landmark to my 18th - that's what I thought when I bought the Apple for my daughter, but she wasn't bothered, so...

But yep, we've been talking - will offer him the watch option ...he likes his old grandad's ring too, so maybe some jewellery like that.

He's a good boy.
