Where you do store thick, bulky, hefty warm clothing? Im running out of space

Im always cold so I have lots of jumpers, thick loungers and joggers, thick socks, layers of thermals. We have blankets galore and they're on a washing rotation, some are hanging up and now and some Ive identifed need to go in the wash.

They take up so much room they dont fit in the drawers

I have to have so many to go under or over things, or with different outfits, for the layers I need quite a few.

What do you do with yours if you have a lot of jumpers/thick warm clothing?

You can buy vacuum sealed bags. Put the clothes inside. Suck out the air with your vacuum cleaner. And the clothes you be flater to store.

I've got a lovely big airing cupboard which is used as a walk-in wardrobe!

Have you packed all your summer clothes away so wardrobes freed up for winter? Why do blankets need washing so often?

PlazaAthenee · 09/12/2025 07:43

Mine live in four drawers, they do take up a lot of room and it is annoying. I also have a lot of cosy clothes as I get so cold from Oct to March.

Blankets live in a basket in the living room (or folded up on the sofa when not in use).
I only have a few very warm jumpers - thin cashmere for work and thick for home but nobody sees me so I just wear the same one.
Proper wool or cashmere doesn't need frequent washing, just spot cleaning.

Do you need so many? One to wash, one to wear, one for spare. Blankets - I only wash every couple of months. Just air them properly when you can between uses.

Oh i hear you.

Now i'm a proper grown up (50's 😃) i feel i should have a good choice of coats. Reading Style and Beauty here shows me i'm not alone. A short coat, a long smart coat, a 'good' warm coat for when it's proper cold, a trench coat, a fashion fur perhaps ect ect

But where the hell do i hang them all?!

Because i also feel i should have a couple of knitted dresses, a few cardi's to chuck on at work, my 2 really thick long cardigans (for just before coat weather) a nice selection of jumpers, my jeans, my jeggings. my trousers, my knitted skirts, my slobby stuff ... aaarrrggghhh

We are lucky enough to have a spare bedroom where i put all my summer stuff - but i like to leave space in there. I hate having under those shallow under the bed boxes, but i guess if you're really struggling they're a good option. If i can't see stuff i don't use it though.

Maybe a pile of nice new clear storage boxes with lids on stacked in the corner ?

Ottoman bed frames are useful for this - I store away my summer clothes and other stuff I want to keep but not in daily use and that frees up wardrobe space.

Go through airing cupboard and have a good sort out - bound to be things you don’t need and are just storing so put those in vacuum bags or donate and free up space

I dont really wear winter clothes and summer clothes, I wear the same clothes all year round.

We wash our sofa blankets and throws regularly, OH usually wraps himself up in them resulting in spilt food, hes very clumsy, the most recent incident is cat sick, a regular occurance.

Oh yes the coats

Yes Im also now grown up and discovered the joy of a really fine wool fitted coat, lined, beautiful. Also rain coats. Also duster wool coat. Also work coat. Also rain mac and jackets, different to the rain coat. Then jackets I wear on cycling trips. Then walking jacket and also an old puffer jacket.

No room for them all.
