I have been on the combined pill (microgynon) for years, I started taking it at 17 and I am 32 now. I have had a couple of breaks in the past and for a short while went onto the mini pill but I just bled constantly.

I have endometriosis and the pill helps to keep it light and relatively painless. I have recently been diagnosed with a heart defect (an ASD) which I am currently on a waiting list for surgery for. Because of this, my doctor said I am at a greater risk of blood clot and would like me to come off the pill and switch to a different method.

Everything I’ve read about just seems awful. Does anyone have any positive experiences with anything other than the pill? I need something because my periods will be too awful without it. When im not on the pill I also find my mood is low and I am irritable and being on the pill helps regulate my hormones so I am very scared to come off it 😔

I've had a very positive experience with a Mirena coil. I have adenomyosis and the Mirena totally settled my periods and associated bowel problems. Its now helping with my perimenopause symptoms too. I just wish that I'd done it years before I actually did.

I used the Depo jab. No period, no PMT nothing.

I know it doesn't work for everyone but it did for me.

It's a bit inconvenient having to get a jab every 3 months but so worth it.

I highly recommend the Mirena coil. It's one of the best things I have ever done.

I did have bleeding like a period for about 3 months after it was put in, but 6 years later I haven't had a period since. I have only had a little spotting perhaps once a year.

I haven't had any side effects and it doesn't have the same risks of blood clots. Insertion was slightly uncomfortable but bearable and it lasts years.

It's also much more effective in terms of preventing pregnancy than the pill.

I’m also a Mirena fan - good luck

Mirena was the worst thing I ever did!! I had fibroids and it was supposed to help with the heavy bleeding but it made it so much worse and my mood was awful. Also, once you got it, it’s hard to get rid of if it doesn’t suit you as medics will keep telling you to give it more time to settle.
