The Mad Things That Happen for Christmas

Please add yours to make me smile.

I’m currently in the middle of a work project. Biggest of my career. I’m so behind, not organised at all for Christmas.

DH has offered to help.

He’s started to paint skirting boards. They have been on the house to do list for 15 years 😂

Join me in this madness, please.

At least you will have sparkly skirting boards as you tuck into your turkey sandwich meal deal for xmas lunch. Send him out for plenty of wine, that should help.

Reminds me of the time we had visitors coming to stay, we had young kids and the house was in absolute chaos. I was getting stressed with all the jobs to be done. So Dh decided to fix the internal shelf in the home office desk that had been broken for about 2 years.

Why do men do this? Mine will suddenly decide its time to put up a new curtain rail or something just as we are about to have a birthday party!

I love Christmas and it was me who organises it, though DH did his side’s present buying and he cooked the meal!
But one year we got married in November and all my focus was on that. Then we had a two week honeymoon. Then I came home to Christmas lights decorating the streets and music and realised I hadn’t done a thing! Mad rush (this was before online food shopping, and Amazon was just starting to sell things other than books).
I also found out I was pregnant just before Christmas and wasn’t feeling so good.
Another year I sadly lost my Dad ten days before Christmas, that was hard. Then a year later my DH passed away suddenly. That was almost impossible but held it together for the kids (4&6), but the tree did not stay up long.

Oh my internal list of things that happen for Christmas is mad. We’re hosting people who regularly spend a lot of time in my house in all states of tidy to disaster zone. But for some reason I usually end up:

cleaning with glass cleaner front of cupboard doors
cleaning dishwasher
deep cleaning bin cupboard
reorganise kitchen cupboards and bin old packets and jars
descale kettle, coffee maker and all scummy cups

et. Etc etc

Its madness I really need to stop!
