How much would you pay for a 2nd hand log cabin?

I am selling my log cabin. Details are:

20ft x 10ft
5 years old
Outside wood painted with oil based sealant paint (can't remember what)
Pretty much as new as hardly used
Cost about 5k when I bought it
No insulation
4 lattice style windows
Pitched roof
It will need to be dismantled by the buyer

Am interested in what people think is a fair price as AI gives me anything from "a few hundred to a few thousand"

Thanks

It really depends on where you are. But in general if the buyer needs to dismantle you would be lucky to get even a few hundred. Look around and see what you can find in your area being listed for sale second hand, and put it on for a bit less if you want it to go quickly, a bit more if you're happy to wait but want more money.

Now is not a great time of year to be selling it, most people are not focusing on their garden. You'll have better chances in spring.

DD has one the same size and age, but it's insulated. She'd expect £1000-1500 max as the demolition and rebuilding would be a faff and it's probably easier to buy new.

@CatherinedeBourgh thank you, yes that is a good point about waiting for the spring

@DreadingWinter thank you, that is v helpful with the price for an insulated one

Unless I was desperate for one and couldn’t afford new, I’d never buy secondhand where I had to dismantle it myself. I imagine it’s a very niche market. The buyer would have to arrange transport as well.

Nourishinghandcream · 06/12/2025 12:59

I would say you will be lucky to sell it at all and may well end up giving it away.🤔

It is not new, it is going to have suffered some deterioration in the 5yrs (whether noticeable or not), the recipient is going to have to dismantle (which in itself can cause damage) and then transport it away.
What is the roof, rolls of felt or those felt "tiles"? Neither are going to be much use after being removed and will have to be replaced.
Is it fitted with guttering? Many are not and suffer tremendous damp/rot where the water runs off, splashes up the wall and soaks the wood (usually at the back where it is invisible😖).

As PP said, improve your options by listing in the spring after giving it a really good clean but be prepared to let it go for peanuts/nothing.☹️

Yes, I may well have to give it away, which is why I wanted to ask on here.

Didnt want to undersell it! But seems like that isn't an option 😀

I’d put it on Freecycle or Freegle and be grateful if people dismantle it and take it away.

PracticallyPeapod · 06/12/2025 18:14

If you can get rid of it without having to pay somebody to take it away then I think you’re winning.

JamesClyman · 06/12/2025 19:26

If I have to dismantle it, I'm not going to pay more than a couple of hundred depending on the condition.
