Adult puzzles

Sorry if you think this is going to be something more exciting - it’s really only about puzzles and I wasn’t sure how to phrase it.

My mum has always been into puzzles. Back in the day my dad would always buy her the latest Rubiks at Christmas and she also liked the large books where you had to solve puzzles, find things in big intricate pictures and solve clues (I’ve had a look and I think some were Kit Williams books). Some of them were actual treasure hunts but she just liked doing the puzzles. She would sit for hours, make notes, look things up in maps etc.

Over the years I have tried to find similar types of things but can’t seem to. The Ordnance Survey did some puzzle books but they aren’t quite the thing.

I would love to find something similar this year. Any ideas, anyone? Thanks!

You can get escape room board games for 1 or more people, by "Exit". They offer different levels of difficulty.

There are also a series of murder mystery jigsaw puzzles too which we like but I can't remember the make ... Google should help.

Wasjig are quite good too. More traditional jigsaws with a twist.

There was a Sherlock Holmes Puzzle book out too a few years ago (again name escapes me but my DH liked it)

And Murdle books proved a hit.

I don't know of she likes Cryptic Crosswords, but apparently you can teach yourself how to do them and there are some good tutorial books out there. Not really my thing but I was thinking about getting one for DH.

Or how about an online subscription to the NY Times puzzles?

The British Museum has some

I was going to suggest Ordnance Survey - what didn't she like about those?

I second the Exit range noted by another poster. We are on our 3rd year of an Exit advent calendar which has a puzzle every day but they have a range of other things and different levels of difficulty.

There are lots of escape room type puzzle books. Although I haven't done any so I couldn't recommend and specific ones.

The Mystery Agency do books and games along these lines too.

Has she ever done an escape room? She might enjoy one of you could get a team together? Christmas outing maybe!

another vote for the Exit games! DD and I love these, but they are mostly doable on your own (just check as some need 2)
