Toddler stomach bug - tips please!

Looks like our toddler has come down with her first stomach bug, poor thing. Nursery said she had three loose nappies in 15 minutes just before pick-up 😬 She seems her usual chirpy self, has asked for snacks, and says her tummy is fine but I appreciate toddlers are not the most reliable narrators and things can also flip quite quickly!

My head is a bit frazzled as we have a newborn too. What are your best tips for stomach bugs at this age, beyond the basics of keeping her hydrated with sips of water, washing hands with soap frequently and wiping down touch points? The newborn is tiny (just 6lbs) so we need to try to avoid it spreading if at all possible - appreciate that's probably pretty futile if it's something like noro!

DH is currently downstairs with her while I'm feeding the baby. Worth putting a towel down in her cot or wait to see what happens? Will definitely be clearing the army of stuffed toys!

Yes, towel in cot for sure. Also aerosol Dettol is your friend! If she has longer hair tie it back in advance. If she starts coughing race through at the speed of light, she won't know what being sick feels like but that will be it. Pot under her bed ready. Change of PJ's for you and her at the ready. May the gods be with you!!

Layer mattress protector, sheet, mattress protector etc. In the middle of the night ght whip one off, straight back to bed.

Bowl, towels and more towels. Straight in the washing machine if sicked on to be washed when there’s a load with laundry cleanser / hot wash

Spare nappies, bum cream

Peroxide / bleach touch points. Windows open / isolate the bathroom or room to the sick person to try and prevent spread

Ice lollies for the littles if they can’t keep much down

Pray 😂

I struggle so much with this it’s a massive phobia of mine and I have a breakdown. but some of the things we do when it does get us

Towel in cot and on floor.

I think noro (and stomach bugs generally) tend to start with vomiting rather than diarrhoea so it might be something else.

Thank you all - really appreciated the tips last night! Was reassuring to have a plan.

@ShesTheAlbatross I'm still hoping you're right about diarrhoea! We're tentatively waiting to see if it becomes anything more. Didn't hear a peep out of her in the night. She woke up with a dirty nappy but nothing too concerning and has been full of beans ever since and eating plenty as usual.

DH and I on the other hand both feel like we might have a very mild stomach upset but had a bit of a rough night with the baby spitting up a lot and needing to be held.

God I hate bug season. Only another 3/4 months to go, right 😅 Hope everyone has peaceful Saturdays ahead!
