Possible driving offence in Spain.

Long story short we had a disastrous week in Spain when we had to sell DH’s parents home there.

All very fraught and emotional. And I ended up having to drive.

We were going round a huge multi lane roundabout in a major city with DH navigating, saying no, no not that exit, THAT one - I went down THAT one - and apparently went through a red light.

So I’m sure it will catch up with me because we had so many disasters that week unfortunately.

We were in a hire car but had to rush to catch our plane and there were other issues so we didn’t think to say anything.

My question is, if it was on camera, how long is it likely to take before I hear from Spanish authorities?

Obviously they will have to go to the car hire firm first, then contact me.

Has anyone had anything similar who can give me a time frame??

Think about how many traffic lights in this country have red light cameras? Hardly any. If it’s the same in Spain they you’d be very unlucky to have been caught.

Just relax and worry about it if/when it happens.

My brother was driving in Australia and went above the then 30mph limit over the Sydney suspension Bridge. Yes he had a fine a couple of months later. He lives in Northern Ireland.

It may take a while to process. Try not to worry too much. x

We had a speeding fine from France a few years ago, took a couple of months to get here, presumably the French authorities had got the address from DVLA.
A friend in USA got a speeding ticket from UK about 6 weeks after the event, the British Police had had to contact the vehicle ‘keeper’ to ask who had been driving the car.

They may ignore the lights if nothing untoward happened.

It's an upsetting time for you and please don't worry about it x

No need for police as this was a hire car
so the hire company would receive notification and then contact the OP.

All the info as to why you ran the red light really wasn’t relevant

Obvs, you are feeling stressed for lots of reasons. As PPs say, you may eventually hear from someone about this but it is highly unlikely since there was no crash. So you should just put it out of your mind for now.

If it makes you feel better, you could contact the hire car company and ask their advice - but you don't have to take it.

Many years ago, a UK friend was caught speeding excessively in the US. Fortunately, he was in an area where we could connect him with a solicitor friend who arranged for his US driving privileges to be suspended ... the day after he left the US. By the time he came back to visit again, the ban had expired ...

Thank you everyone. It’s been about 3 months so hopefully it’s ok

Well that's quite the update.

I live in Spain and I only know of one traffic light camera here in the very large major city I live in - for better or worse, we’re a lot more lackadaisical on driving rules enforcement here than in the UK, so honestly don’t fret it.

Well that's quite the update.

Apologies but I’ve been worrying. I’ve heard stories of police letters coming through months after the event when hire cars were involved.
