Specifically, for a 12 year old boy who loves baking.

budget about £20-£30 - what could you get? Hand mixer?! Some baking tins?! I want to get him something practical but nothing like an apron or novelty shite.

any ideas?

PME baking tins (6 inch is a good starter size)
PME release spray

I am a baker; and I’d be lost without these. No need to grease and line your tins. They pop out every time.

Who’s the recipient? If it is your child, is a second hand stand mixer an option? Hand mixers are not great. If it isn’t your child, maybe his parents might invest in something like that in the future.

It depends what he has already. If he hasn’t got the basics yet, the following things are helpful:

Palette knife
Starter kit of baking nozzles
Disposable piping bags
Metal cake scraper
Gel food colours (Colour Splash are a good budget option which give a great colour)
Spinning table to decorate the cakes - an IKEA lazy Susan is the best! Budget friendly and works really well.

If you need any help with links to products, I’m happy to help. You have time to do a Temu order before Christmas (if you use it) and you’d get loads at a great price there.

Does he like sushi? I realise its not baking and a parent/guardian would need to go also, but this lesson was fun and and I still make sushi now: yosushi.com/sushi-school

I’ve just bought a memory gift book for my mum from Storybox.life. They receive a weekly email and after they answer all the questions they receive a beautifully bound full colour hardback book of their life with pictures. Something really special for the family to share.
