How do I know what size my earrings are?

Can’t go back to the piercer but I’m needing to replace my earrings. They were pierced ages ago with flat back earrings and sized down after a few weeks. I’m looking for flat backs online but it’s a minefield with sizes - does anyone know what it mean? There seems to be a huge difference in size between the ones that I have and ‘normal’ earrings. I love the flat backs though so would like to order more.

Take one out and measure it?

I’m scared to take them out without having the replacement ready as they are definitely thicker than normal studs etc, I don’t want the hole to shrink. Also, o don’t understand what the measurements are anyway or what to measure

The holes are not going to shrink in the 30 seconds it takes you to remove and measure one of your earrings. If you are not prepared to do that, then I don't know how you expect anyone on here to know what size they are.

What are you trying to get smaller, the post length or the thickness (gauge) of the post?

My 2nd and 3rd lobes were pierced with 1.2mm thick earrings which were 7mm long. I've currently got 8mm long threadless labrets that are 1.2mm thick that I bought online

Could you contact your piercer and ask what they used?

You measure the length of post and the thickness of it. The measurements are in mm

I bought a cheap multi pack on Amazon when I had this issue with my daughter's earrings..

Message your piercer.
Generally lobes will be 5mm posts and 8mm for a conch
Gauge is likely to be 30 (0.8)

Gosh, I was only asking. I wasn’t trying to get anything smaller, I wanted to order earrings the same size. I didn’t know the gauge was thickness but managed to find a detailed diagram last night which has explained it. There is no way I’m taking it out until I am ready to replace it.

Surely you can take it out, measure it and put it back in?!

Thank you, I have managed to work it out by finding a diagram explaining how to measure. Can’t contact the piercer, had an issue early on and they were totally unhelpful.

I didn’t know what the measurements meant so I didn’t know what I was doing.
