Hello all,

I wonder if you can help me please….this is my first rodeo when it comes to elderly parents , care fees etc…
to cut a very long story short, my lovely dad has been in hospital/ care rehab for 7 weeks and the NHS have done wonders in getting him ready to come home with a care package…
my question please is this…..I know for savings less than £23,250 adult social care “ contribute” towards Care at a home….but can anyone tell me exactly how much please as I’m wanting to get things clear in my head before I speak with his social worker ( who should have been appointed a week ago but hasn’t yet)…
dad and I have a joint account but he is the primary account holder…it has around £21,000 In it at anyone time …comprising of what’s already in there and pensions totalling £2271 per month …..if he needs ( hypothetically) 3 care visits a day at a cost of £75 per day ( £ 2250 per month) how much of that do we pay and how much do the council pay ? Its North Northamptonshire council if that helps..
I’ve searched and searched and can’t find any actual figures, so if anyone can offer me guidance on how care is costed I would be beyond grateful…

many thanks in advance,Kevin xxxx ( not a carrot and not getting married at Xmas 😊)

The council will need to do a financial assessment.

I suspect they will consider half the £ in the joint account to be yours, so his savings will come under the threshold for consideration, so it will be all about his income. If he was in residential care then they would take most of it, but I'm not sure what happens when it comes to care at home - hoping this bumps for you.

The council will do a financial assessment, they can 'allow' amounts for personal care products etc (if you are answering the questions they will ask if he uses incontinence pads etc) it's difficult to give an exact figure for care at home because certain pensions may not count in the assessment etc. so they are looking at individual circumstances as well as the savings threshold.
