SoTiredNeedHoliday · 02/12/2025 10:16

Looking for some British themed or at least made gifts to take abroad for nice and nephews 6-11 and for their parents.
Any ideas?
It used to be so easy when 'shopping' wasn't so global!!! But now you can get most brands all over the world

How about a couple of the horrible histories books, my daughter absolutely used to love them at that age, and maybe some handmade fudge for the parents??

magimedi · 02/12/2025 13:27

Ask them. I live abroad and am delighted when visitors ask if there is anything they can bring. The list is nearly always headed by Marmite!

SoTiredNeedHoliday · 02/12/2025 13:32

They now sell Marmite at the destination ....... I'll look into Horrible Histories

anything else ?

I’m probably older than your target group but I would love
Notelets (plain inside) with a British theme like phone boxes, Cotswold cottages, William Morris. Good for notes to teachers etc.
Oven gloves, rectangular style. I can only get mitts here in Italy.
A box set of a series I can’t get over here, like Slow Horses or All creatures great and small.

For kids, maybe an Annual like the Beano. Mine were fascinated by the humour, especially Dennis the Menace, Gnasher and “Gnipper” (pronounced like gnocchi).

There’s King and McGraw. The prices are for framed art. You have to click in to each one to select unframed to see the price for that.

TootsMaHoots · 02/12/2025 14:42

Beano annual is a great idea.

Don’t think many 6-8 year olds would want a poster of St Paul’s Cathedral or whatever for Christmas… And posters are very personal, I wouldn’t give one to an adult unless I knew them and their home decor taste REALLY well. But you can give someone a nice U.K. calendar with anything from wildflowers to National Trust houses to old Tube Posters, which I’ve done occasionally.

I usually get stuff from Fortnum & Mason. They usually do a nice music box tin of biscuits which the kid can keep as a music box afterward eating. Also London themed books like “Paddington in London”, “Peppa in London”, “Mr Men in London”, depending on age. Horrible Histories is a good idea too as PP said.

Christmas tree decorations like a London bus, red post box or black cab?

Nigellastwinklylights · 02/12/2025 14:59

Do the parents enjoy British (slightly rude) humour? If so, how about something by British illustrator, Sarah Edmonds.

Hopefully, it will get past MNHQ image detector

Our friends in Berlin love M&S foodie gifts like tins of shortbread (they collect the tins), tins of chocolates, Merry Munch etc. Lots of nice foodie gifts for the kids too such as jelly beans in tins, choc chip shortbread in london bus tins etc.
